Overall, the new format is fine. I have just one gripe. When I go to take a look at other BA's beer reviews, I have to copy&paste their user name at the end of the link to my own beer reviews to see them. That seems kind of awkward to me. In this age of technology, surely there is a better, more simple way. The old website I could just click a users name and see all of their beer reviews. Am I missing something or is this just the way it is?

Well, as of april 9, the integration was supposed to be done by the end of may, and then as of the beginning of may there is no real timetable. I honestly don't see why over 3 months after the new site went live we are still seeing all these issues.

    Edit: Also this: http://beeradvocate.com/community/forums/announcements.49/

But all the threads are locked so there's no good place to ask questions about stuff like this anymore.

Because Todd is a one man team and didn't have the foresight that the forum might go critical on him. So they had to spend a whole ton of money that they hadn't planned on spending for upgrades to get the site back up. Now from what I understand, they don't have the $ to hire someone to help Todd with all this integrating shit because I'm inclined to believe if they did, they would've already since it makes Todd's life a little easier.

This is a multi-million dollar site that is at this point functional, but spending a few thousand dollars on a week of work from a professional web developer would make it outstanding. There are bigger problems here if these guys can't find that much money for something this important. Maybe my info is wrong, but it seems like as great as it was that todd did all the work on the old site, which was very well done, that it is coming up on 4 mos since the site went live and so much is still undone might indicate that he needs some help.

I know, I agree with you but multi-million dollar site and having liquid cash are very different things. I asked Todd about it because yes, all indicators point to that he is in over his head because he hasn't been able to restore full functionality in a timely manner. I can't remember exact words so I can't quote him but his words were something along the lines of I would love to hire some help but its not feasible financially right now. I just took it for what it is...

My only gripe is all my post's being reset. Otherwise it's a pretty solid format.

I'd love to have a beer search in the upper right corner. As it is, they are basically running two completely separate websites.

But this thread will be locked without any further discussion.

Completely agree. My other gripes come from the reviews part of the site which hasn't been integrated yet. I used to do a lot of BMing people from the gots list of beers but I haven't been able to do that since the crash.

I wonder if they could go back to using the old user profiles, much of the lost functionality seems to be connected to using the new forum profiles instead of the old BA profiles. Even things as simple as seeing where people live that are writing reviews, that was always useful when determining if something had been released in your state already. Also being able to see all the WANTS and GOTS for individual beers.

Some legit points here but I'd take Todd's baby over ratebeer anyday.

They both have their pros and cons but when it comes to the forums, hell yea I'll take the old forum over ratebeers any day an even more this new one since it gets rid of IMO the only con of the old one which was the loading time for long ass threads.

I don't think they can go back if they wanna do a full integration. They could just bring back all the old profiles without the old forum functionality and then also have these but I believe their goal is full integration so that's not really an option.

Dear god the reviewing process over there is awful!

Example: This beer was brown. I liked the nose. It tasted hoppy. I'd buy it again. 3.8 /endreview

I've always wondered why the reviews are so different. I've postulated that its because the bros reviews here are long, thoughtful and descriptive so the 1st reviewers tried to emulate them and it went on from there but who knows.

Actually, we put everything on hold as we've opted to hire someone. I could've buckled down and tackled it, but it doesn't make sense anymore. Not if we want to properly grow BeerAdvocate.

While we spent money, we didn't spend a ton of money, and we do have the budget to hire someone. In fact, we've been tweeting that the hiring process will begin this month; job posting goes up this week.
