Well, each is a 100% Citra-hopped pale ale, so it stands to reason that there would be similarities. We drank them side-by-side at Darkness Day just to make this comparison. Neither was a clear favorite. Oh, and it's pseudoSue. One word, lower-case p.
I've had both fresh and I can say they are both great brews. I prefer FP due to the heavy amount of citrus I pick up.
Recently did this testing. And Zombie Won in our group without a Vote Going to FP. In saying that Flower Power is real good. And I picked one up about a month ago, and thought it was good enough to challenge Zombie with. And def has the citrus smell and great nose. So it's damn good too. Zombie is in a world of it's own...... On cask....Damn will probably stop in for one today, if there's any left!
ZD isn't even FFF best pale/IPA. I would take Alpha King any day over ZD. Flower Power is a little too heavy for my taste. FP is local to me and I get it sometimes 2-3 days after bottling. Both are good beers.
Flower Power showing back up on shelves in Philly/Nj thankfully......... Had ZD once while visiting the great city of Chicago, big fan of both................Daisy Cutter 16oz cans killer too.
Let's see, Rolls Royce or Bentley? Ferrari or Maserati? Mercedes or BMW? Chocolate chip ice cream, mint chocolate chip ice cream, mint chcolate chip with cherries, chocolate chocolate chip...???? Hmmmm? Which one is better? Hey, like bit above...(sorry for being so obnoxious) but...both beers are great! Me, just like I'd rather each mint chocolate chip over the others (yes..matter of taste not "quality") I'd rather drink Zombie Dust. One of my favorite beers on planet earth. Again...just a matter of taste.
I'm Drinking a Three Floyds Pride and Joy and I like it better than Zombie Dust Please don't get me wrong - Zombie Dust is great. Better than any West coast pissy IPA. But FFF makes the best pales and IPAs other than Two Hearted. Zombie just isnt the best one.
Just like almost every thread like this: Flower Power and Zombie Dust are both great in their own way. These brew vs. brew threads are the biggest waste of space on this site because they usually compare two great beers (as in this case). Why does their always have to be a beer that's "better" or "best?" Relax, kick back, and just enjoy both of them.
I am thinking the same thing, but only to get out of the Hell Hole that is Illinois. I go by 3F once a week so I can get ZD anytime I want..always have at least 12 on hand, but Dreadnaught is my favorite 3F brew.
Never had Zombie Dust, but Flower Power is currently my favorite IPA. Man, I really want to try Zombie Dust!
How often we take for granted our local/easy to access beers. Flower Power is a staple in my fridge whereas I have never had Zombie Dust and would love to try some.
Really?! Zombie Dust better? - No way, Flower Power takes it ..it's more Complex by far. I like Zombie, but come on folks. -- I love ZD's nose And intial taste but it falls off prtty fast, it doesnt linger as much as it shld (it does but doesnt..it's kinda thin & light). I say the "residual" (we'll call it) ;p ..is just a tweet flatter than i expected, from such a "supposed beast" - i (am) also drinking 1 right now. I think it's got a Cool name.. maybe That's why folks wanna like it so much - Flower Power edges it out a bit..sorry. But again, all the " bickering" cracks me up here...everybody has diff Tastes & likes, none more Obvious.
I had both back to back two days ago...The FP was over a month old so it wasnt a fair comparison. It still was pretty close though.
Flower Power is quite good (much easier to get, cases and cases at local beer stores), but Zombie Dust is just cosmically divine! Zombie Dust seems to be more of an IPA, than a Pale Ale.
Traded a 12 pack of Flower Power for a 12 of Zombie Dust a few months ago. Both were fresh and I had them back to back. I'd give the edge to Zombie Dust, but I'm glad I can regularly get one of them.
I'm going to have to go with ZD. It's close but FP is missing something when side by side. Also FP has a extra Orange Zest or Mint maybe that I can do without. Both are very solid pale ales though. I always have ZD close by but ill never turn down an FP.
Zombie Dust should only be compared to Hoppy Birthday. Those two are in a world of their own. I tend to favor HB (excuse the homerism) but not by much.
Zombie Dust straddles the APA/IPA line and Flower Power straddles the IPA/DIPA. They're in different tiers no matter how you slice it. They both use copious amounts of similar hops, particularly in dry-hoping. I would compare ZD more to Hill Farmstead single IPA'S. They're both wonderful beers though that share a common bond.
I just had a Flower Power (best by April 2013) and I'd have to say that I prefer ZD as they stand now. Maybe off the bottling line fresh Flower Power could be better but its hard to say, they are sort of in different classes anyhow.
