Gawd, I wish Austin had a cool exclusive beer. Russian River! Let's show them Ballast Point boys! /notgonnahappen
Got it at Spec's, they had the Big Eye and a few others. I was in a hurry and was looking for the Sculpin. Guy said they ran out. No Victory at Sea. Had the Big Eye, had the Sculpin later. Big Eye is the baby brother...
Going to go pester my Kings and ensure they nab some when it lands in DFW. Are we going to see any draft?
Sixpoint had recently shown up in Chicago when I was visiting in May. They were everywhere in cans and especially on draft. Not sure if we'll see a similar roll out but it was quite impressive to see them at so many bars. Unfortunately I wasn't blown away by anything I tried. I still have 3 of the 4 Sweet Actions that I brought back with me.
Yep, I was surprised to find a bottle of Big Eye IPA on the beer list at the Black Sheep Bistro on N. Padre Island. Tasty stuff...
From Specs's Smith St, Houston FB: #Sixpoint's BrewMaster & Founder, Shane Welch, is going to be at Spec's SUPERSTORE Downtown Houston sampling his beers TODAY from 2-5 PM!
drove across town and he had he bailed an hour early. did grab last 2 bottles of Black Butte off shelf
About 6 cases are sitting on the floor of Specs Arbor Walk right now... I picked up Resin. Priced at $8.99. kmello69... they indeed had Bengali tiger (along with all the other brands).
Wow, Resin is muy deliciouso. Very sharp hop taste with a lingering sweetness. I like it. Says "Best Before 5th April 2013"... anyone know how they date their cans? I'm wondering just how old this is? It tastes relatively fresh.
Yeah, I should have been more specific - Specs RR said they wouldnt get Bengali, and I dont think they did. No idea why.
My understanding is that their best by date is 9 months from the canning date, so an April 2013 beer would have been canned in July, 2012. Because they are canned, and therefore not exposed to light or oxygen loss, they might last a bit longer in terms of freshness than other stuff in bottles.
Williamson County, man. In other news, I saw a guy in a black polo near one of the station that the Spec's beer guys usually stand at and I remarked that I was glad that Sixpoint finally made it. He turned out to be a rep for Brown Distributing (AKA: Budweiser). Turned it around though, they also distribute New Belgium and I told him how wonderful their Super IPA is. Apparently Austin got 60 cases of that total. Funfact.
Man, I wish everyone would can. Then I could complain less about not-so-fresh IPAs. They also can, then put those cans in a cardboard box. Pretty impenetrable.
Beer distro cracks me up sometimes. Here in San Antonio, we're getting Sixpoint from Silver Eagle (Bud) and New Belgium from Halo (MillerCoors).
Love to hear July born on dates for these cans. That's respect. I'm growing antsy for DFW dates!!! Bring me Resin!
For those interested in sampling their wares, Six Point will be having a release party at our place on Monday, 9/10, from 5pm-?. Jan Matysiak, Sixpoint brewer and former Live Oak head brewer, and all around great guy, will be in attendance. Pouring will be- Bengal Tiger + Brown Stone + Resin + Righteous Ale + The Crisp + The Spice Riwaka. Come on by!
speaking of sixpoint. would anyone be interested in a sixpoint tasting/ny movie night here in austin? credit to Babaracus for the idea.
I will be diving into a Bengali tiger and a resin tom. (maybe tonight, we will see how things go after this bomber) Thanks for the info!
