I guess mine will be the first of many responses echoing the same sentiment, but . . . nothing is really comparable. In my experience, the hop character meshes with the fruity esters of the yeast and malt in such a way that it gives Heady all these different layers of flavor that I haven't seen anywhere else, in quite that way. Edit: Oh hey! I wasn't the first response. But jmw is right, there's a ton of threads on this.
Hopefully the home brew my brother and I are making this weekend. I have not come across anything that resembles heady topper.
*As opposed to the 8 or 9 threads a day about people trying to rationalize their alcoholism, or sugar coat the fact that they are beer hoarders? Yeah I think I like this one better.
Palate Wrecker from Green Flash has a similar Amarillo note as does Lagunitas Sucks... neither have that yeast flavor which I don't enjoy that much anyway.
Lawson's Double Sunshine and Abner from Hill Farmstead are very close, but harder to get a hold of. God dammit now I'm thirsty...
Hmm. The closest I've had are HF Abner and double galaxy. Lagunitus Sucks, Lawson's Kiwi, and Jacks Abby Kiwi Rising are other ones but more citrusy and less floral.
Double Dorado by Ballast Point and Artic Panzer Wolf by 3 Floyds. Also Lake Erie Monster by Great Lakes.
Heady is in its own realm but if you want an IPA with similar pine characteristics I would go with Elevated IPA.
THANK GOODNESS someone finally said it. The beer hoarding is just sick. I guess I'm just totally weird or an odd one on this site, but I love sharing good beer with worthy friends. Talking about it, savoring it, and having fun.
