How'd you like the DRIPA? One of my favorite brews, no doubt.

They just released a shipment of these here today and I had to pick one up and see what it's all about. The smell and taste certainly surprised me, the level and intensity of the whiskey characteristics was something I hadn't anticipated. I haven't had much experience with bourbon per se, but the smell and taste is very similar to that of Canadian Club in my opinion. The "dark sweetness" (I recall Canadian Club smelling and tasting of dark fruits, which I also get with this one) combined with obvious oak and wood flavors both remind me of Canadian Club. It's certainly boozy, but not hard alcohol boozy to where it detracts from the other flavors. So far I'm enjoying the experience and it's certainly different from what I expected, which is a good thing considering the price I paid for it, I didn't want it to be just another imperial stout.

Afternoon friends. This is tasting mighty fine. 3 degrees on Lake Superior, with 10 mph wind and consistent snow. Up to about 160 inches so far this year.

Long story before I get to what I'm drinking. Sorry for the expletives. Copied and pasted from my facebook on my phone.

    My little adventure this morning.

Woke up 9:50 after finally falling asleep at 7:30. Texted my friend to see if he would be getting the big local beer being released this morning. He told me I'd better be there by 10:30 if I wanted any.

    FUCK!

Jumped in and out of the shower and got in my car by 10:00. Fuuuuuu.... I was on E. Ran down to the chevron on HWY6/WLY. Pumped real quick and raced down to DQ - which is next to ST THOMAS UNIVERSITY.

10:31 on the dot. The parking lot of the small mini mart was packed. People lined up inside to buy this sweet nectar.

A Buffalo Bayou rep and the brewmaster were inside handing out bottles. Eight cases in all, twelve bottles per case. $15 per bottle. I got there literally two minutes after he opened, and two cases were gone. I happily grabbed my two bottles, then went to the register.

I asked Brandon, so did you get any Abyss, too? He said the distributer should be there around noon. With just ONE case.

    FUCK!

I had an hour and a half to kill, no way could I drive home, then back. I wanted to just eat and chill at Fat Bao until the case got there, but I had my babies in the car. Couldn't leave them there by themselves. I told Brandon to text me right away when the guy came.

Drove down the street to Fat Bao and chilled with Anthony Tram for a bit while I waited for my to go. Ate six baos and two orders of fries all by myself lol. The smoked salmon was my favorite.

While I was outside DQ eating and waiting, I saw my friend post a picture of the ridiculous line that was wrapped around the Spec's store on Smith. Holy crap people were all the way out to the back parking lot. Look at that second pic. Beer must be the new J's.

Brandon let me know that his single case of Abyss had come in, so I happily got my single bottle (he wouldn't sell me two lol) and made my way home.

Three hours later I'm celebrating with a snifter of Founders Breakfast Stout lol. Fancy first world alcoholic problems. I wish I was a regular alcoholic, it would be so much cheaper.

The 96 bottles of Buffalo Bayou Gingerbread Stout were all gone in an hour flat. I talked to some of the people while waiting and some said they had taken a half day or took an early long lunch!!! Craziness. The 12 bottles of Deschutes Abyss 2012 were gone by the time he opened the box.

While still waiting for places around me to get Nugget Nectar, I am consoling myself with Hopback Amber, a sort of poor man's version, if you will. That and the 4 packs of Palate Wrecker and Toxic Sludge that are in the fridge for later.:D
