Oh, now I see at the bottom "this can contains Black IPA". So a can. The description/warning on both sides threw me off.
Just bring on that Firestone Walker. La Folie was middling last year and paled in comparison to many other Lips series..yeah I'll buy one or maybe two but its completely not worth chasing. Over the summer I was down in Galveston and they had a couple bottles of the past two releases sitting on the shelf at Specs. I will also be buying a crap ton of that Apollo. Sixpoint has rather silently inserted a really nice lineup..it's way too easy to nab a four pack
I'm still impressed at all the places Sixpoint has managed to get into. At least in Austin, it's hard to walk into any gas station and not see Resin, Sweet Action, and Bengali Tiger (if not more!).
Price point and format make it ideal for both small store walkins and shelves alike (one price for the most part and stackable). I wonder who got squeezed out on these stores resets..I am seeing less facing for Sierra Nevada around town. For a matter of perspective when I worked for Red Bull, many gas stations would just buy cases of four pack instead of singles (they could be broken down and scanned as singles but the boxes could be crammed into more spots)
Here's the mockup of the actual ABW can: I think I heard 4 different IPA's over the course of the year, this being the first.
I like to think 100% of my tax dollars went into the "what beer is being released in Texas soon" search engine
It also has a lot to do with their respective distributors. Sixpoint signed on with Brown, who is the local Budweiser distributor. Sierra is with Ben E Keith, who is primarily craft-oriented in Austin. Brown opens more doors on the retail side.
Awesome info. This must be a part of the calculus each brewery makes when deciding on distribution. Honestly it's nearly impossible to keep all this straight in my head. For as much hate as a spew toward the big distributors (mainly focused on their shortcomings in knowledge) it's gotta be tough staying focused on a particular release when the market and its products is expanding so rapidly.
This is exactly why the rumors of JK signing with Silver Eagle make me nervous. Top accounts like Spec's and Gabriel's will get more reliable service, but it's very likely we'll also be sharing our allotments with more HEBs and C-stores that don't give a shit about craft.
You of the magical 5 case load of Whiskey Barrel Rodeo a month after release I may never let you live that one down, nor the infamous Bishops Barrel incident just busting your chops...hope to see you at the next Freetail event.
Our store manager has a great business relationship with Virtuoso. I wouldn't be surprised if they dump off some more RU soon. Lol, I figured a few people must've seen that. Not my proudest moment.
I know someone told me that on Friday at your happy hour, but after 4 Sputniks, my ability to retain data was significantly impaired.....
Only new one that I see today: FIRESTONE WALKER PARABOLA IMPERAL STOUT MALT BEVERAGE 2013-02-08 FIRESTONE WALKER BREWING COMPANY (5.2 Gallon kegs + 22 oz bottles)
Not exactly a label approval, but it looks like Enjoy by 4/1/13 will be coming to TX http://beerpulse.com/2013/02/stone-enjoy-by-04-01-13-heading-to-17-markets/
Belgo-Anise Enjoy By. Mmmmmm. In other news, Beerpulse also announced that the odd-year RIS is espresso.
It has not been posted on TABC yet but I just got word that Hitachino nest has been approved!! Very excited!
John will this be bottles only? This is great news. For those who haven't had anything from Hitachino, I randomly grabbed 3 bottles while traveling just because I had never seen nor heard of them. My little tasting group all agreed they were the most surprising beers of the night. The price point will be crucial for these to succeed here though, $6.50 for a 12oz bottle in Hawaii was rough.
Should drop by a buck or 2 for stateside. Unless, the brewery is in Hawaii. Edit.....it's out of Japan.
japanese, and that is pretty typical of prices I have seen around. Had a few, not too impressed... impressive for japan though.
Typically Japanese stuff is way cheaper in Hawaii. And not everything is more expensive over there, Rogue's entire lineup is cheaper in Hawaii compared to Texas. Somehow Maui Brewing is more expensive there than here ... it's a confusing world.
Isn't Maui also brewed on the mainland? I know one of the Hawaiian breweries has a brewery there and then brew the rest of it stateside.... As for Hitachino, I have had it in the US and it was not 6.50/bottle where I saw it. I would not have bought a Japanese beer if it had set me back that much... But I also will be in Japan for 1 day in March on a layover. I may have to hunt down a beer store and pick up some local beer since they apparently are having a lot more craft breweries opening up.
It will be bottles and select draft. If I remember correct when I pick it up in Kansas I pay about 4-6 dollars depending on style. Which is only 8-12 for a bomber. For awesome beer that is a bargain, considering it travels half the world to land in my belly!
