VIPs have sold out in the past-- not sure how quickly. It's pretty steep-- $120 for two days (and only ten beers included) but there's plenty of food and something to be said for not having to deal with portapotties. I'm hoping the guest lines are more organized. They've clearly stepped up the music; will they step up the guest beers?

Ditto. I went last year and wasn't a fan. I think it just needs someone to grab hold of the organizational horns. Hop Juice is a damn fine beer though.

so it's a ticketed event now!?! On Saturday a ten dollar admission for bands I don't care about (jawhawks I liked your one hit wonder 14 years ago, kinda) and nothing great on tap from two brothers except really Hop Juice. Some of the guest taps were OK but they blew in 5 minutes. No thanks

If the Brooze Brothers aren't playing, I'm not going. Hopefully they don't charge for water this year.

Ditto on the water thing- that was awful. it was so blessedly hot and humid last year. Yikes.

It was a miserable thing last year, crazy hot, bad music, overpriced beer and food, and not nearly enough good guest beer for the demand.

Top it off, my Hop Juice bottles were skunky when I got me home. Two Brothers is going to earn my business again when they step up the quality of their brews. Even still, I'm probably done with Hop Juice.

bumping this guy. This is my first year and I have a few questions:

Can you bring in bags/ backpacks?
Can you bring beers to trade?
    Can you leave and re-enter?
    Anything else I should know?

All i want is Hop Juice Black. And from what i gather, you can go buy Hop Juice without having a ticket to the actual event.
  13. BFro- did they say if they were going to have it at the regular Warrenville brewpub?

Check out this link, it should answer most/all of your questions:http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/242423

    P.S.
Every previous year you have been able to leave and re-enter (the link doesn't cover that).

@AZ: Not sure. Check out that FAQ link. Don't remember if it says on there or not.

It's two days to the event and they have not posted guest taps yet. I would be thrilled if they had Revolution, Half Acre & Solemn Oath there. Anyone got some info on this?

    Local Craft Beer
In addition to having the first chance to get this years Hop Juice IIPA, we are gathering some of the other awesome Illinois craft brewers to join us in the celebration. We will soon be posting the breweries and beers they are bring to the festival Friday

This is my main concern as well. Hop Juice will hit shelves in the city like usual, but I want the Black! I talked to an employee during Beer Under Glass that said they are definitely doing it again. But no word on it hitting stores (I doubt it). Or if there will be a bottle limit. From what I recall, last year you could purchase HJ without paying admission for the event (but I could be wrong). So any clarification would be great.

Imagine -- Two Brothers being bad at marketing and communications!

Last year you could purchase HJ and HJB bombers outside of the fest. And if you waited until you were leaving around 5 pm to make your buy, you didn't get to take any HJB home with you.

Pretty sure Hop Juice Black was sold out at Hop Juice Fest and did not hit stores!

So you could just go to the fest buy HJ and leave?

Youre in the wrong part of Warrenville if you're looking to buy an HJ. But to answer your question, the line to buy bottles to go was outside of the festival fence the past two years. Protip: while Hopjuice Black was better than Hopjuice, I would not pay the price again.

Lol took me a second to get it. Also will this still be the case with the fest being at the roundhouse?

    Hah!

Disagree about the Black though. I would gladly pay again for it. I thought it was fantastic.

Pretty sure there's a mention in the 2Bros HJFest FAQ about there being a separate line strictly for Juice sales. Doesn't mention if that will also include the Black. But i'm guessing it does. I'm leaving it up to mother nature to decide my fate on this. I'm not dealing with it if it's going to be a million degrees out. While 2Bros beers aren't terrible, they don't really get me going either. So i tend to stray. I haven't had Hop Juice though, and i hear its the one to get, especially the black. So..... We'll have to see what happens.

U can buy both HJ and HJB outside of the gated fest and obviously don't have to pay the $5 gen admission. HJ always hits shelves and sticks around for awhile. However, last year I got to the fest between 430-5 and HJB was already sold out. They had no allotment for it cuz an acquaintance of mine bought a case of it. Don't know if they're gonna b brewing more this year than last but I wouldn't expect HJB to hit shelves.

Seriously, why have the guest taps not been announced yet??

    It's 2 days away.

I know that there will be HJB which is an event only release. But the only other real draw is guest taps.

I'm not going to buy tickets in advanced for an event that hasn't even been fully explained.

    Fail.

I've been to each of the previous fests, and they had not announced their guest beer list until you got there on the day of. Yes. Lame.

Yeah, I've been the last few years and immediately typed out the taplist on Ratebeer and thrown a link up over here on BA to said list..

If you are waiting on and basing your decision to go on guest beers, I'm afraid you'll be a little dissappointed.. they are usually solid beers.. but they generally time them and space them out..so it's pretty hard to stick around for all of them. I think Supplication was on at 9 PM last year? I remember Gatlin Damnosus.. GI's Double Brett Dubbel..

I'm not going this year.. just can't deal with it anymore. Nothing has really been a "wow" beer since 2009? 2010? Two full pints of Voltron drank pretty good..

For those interested, here is last year's list: http://www.ratebeer.com/forums/around-town-june-july-2011_171785_9.htm

You wouldn't pay $9? Seriously? Seems like a low priced option for a 10% 4.19 rated beer too me!

In response to questions posed regarding availability of Hop Juice Black at the festival (my concerns were that the VIP area would not have Hop Juice Black), I received this response from Two Brothers, FWIW:

We will definitely have draft of both Hop Juices all festival long. We will have a very limited quantity of Hop Juice Black bottles both days and a limited but larger quantity of Hop Juice bottles both days as well.

Just wondering why u thought the VIP area would not have the Black? HJ and HJB are available everywhere at the fest. Two Bros response to your question is 100% accurate as far as the availability of both Hop Juices in bottles and drafts based on last years fest (sorry the wording on that is kinda weird).

My concern came up after my initial inquiry about availability, to which I received this response:
We will hold some back for sales on Saturday but cannot guarantee availability.

The wording in the response struck me as a bit odd, and reading into it I thought that they were essentially tapping HJB on Friday until it ran out.

Ok gotcha. What they meant was they will hold some Bottles back for sale on Saturday. Last year HJB was still available on draft at the Roundhouse weeks after the fest (not sure about the Warrenville pub). The bottles are what sell out fast. I wouldn't worry about the availability of it on draft tho.

Uh, si, correcto. I won't be at Hopjuice Fest, so I wouldn't have the chance to anyway.

I haven't formally reviewed Hopjuice or Hopjuice Black, but in my super duper humble opinion Hopjuice is a below average beer, I'll throw out 2.75. While Hopjuice Black was above average, say 3.25. Hopjuice is a fairly malty dipa, so I think the Black lends well with it's roasty and super piney characteristics. But still, they're my least favorite Two Bros ipas. I'd love to see a Heavier Handed Fest. Hell, a Heaviest Handed Fest.

Living in the west burbs, one must pay attention to the Two Brothers, and sparks of greatness does keep the optimism alive. Though at times it seems like corp culture over-rides craft brewery ethos. The Hop Juice Fest at the Roundhouse (kudos to 2Bros for saving this architectural gem) could be a most excellent event. Beer, food, and VIP tic prices aside, if you haven't been to a concert lately, $5 is like free. Two Brothers brews on tap will be great, and the guest taps in the past have been awesome. In talking to brewery guys at BUG, the rumor is there could be up to 6-guest taps per hour. Compare to onslaught of "boring" commercial & community fund-raising beer fests....this is the real deal.
