Does anyone know the progression of which beer has been rated number 1 on BA? I've only been following the list for the past year or so but I'm interested to see which beers have held the top spot in the past.

This would be an interesting feature.

I used to check the list rather religiously so I think I am correct (though someone please correct me if I'm wrong) in saying that prior to Heady Topper taking the top spot after the hads change, for the past few nothing other than Pliny the Younger or Westy 12 has occupied the top spot.

I have some older lists saved and I can dig those up later. I used to save a .pdf of the list every month or so.

And I believe the greatest challengers were King Henry and Bourbon County Coffee, which both made it as high as #3.

    I wouldn't mind seeing beers #s 101-200.

I think CBS came close for awhile there as well. Vanilla Dark Lord was number 3 for awhile as well, I believe, but that was further back.

I think Victory Storm King and/or Celebrator Doppelbock may have occupied the top spot. I'm talking a decade ago though.

I think Thomas Hooker liberator dopplebock took the top spot... also a long while ago.

I just busted out a print out of the Top 100 from July of 2010. At that point the top beers were (with their current ranks in parentheses):
    1) Westy 12 (6)
    2) Pliny the Younger (2)
    3) Vanilla Bean Dark Lord (3)
    4) CBS (4)
    5) The Abyss (21)
    6) Pliny the Elder (5)
    7) Blabaer (18)
    8) Kate the Great (retired)
    9) Bourbon County Coffee (10)
    10) KBS (9)

So things haven't changed THAT much.

July 2010 really wasn't all that long ago.....and that was after the change in the formula that was used to determine the ratings.

The top 100 looked drastically different from today pre-2009.

Ahh, before IPAs were the only beers that mattered!

Coffee nailed the #2 slot for a short while.

What would be interesting is if on each beer's page, if there could be a history of its ranking. When it entered the top 100, highest ranking, how many weeks in the top 100, etc.

Also, i think The Perfect Storm and original Black Tuesday crept into #2 for a very short while as well. Pretty sure they both hit #3 at least.

Kate the Great was #1 for at least a year or so, I think, like back in 2007. Pliny the Younger was #1 for a while, then Westy 12. Didn't realize Heady Topper is #1 now, I hadn't seen the list in ages.

Remember BT's climb and then freefall? That was fun to watch.

When I was under my original name of chimaynh from 2001 to 2005 I believe that Storm King held the top spot for a while.
