I found Palate Wrecker to be bitter, yes, but not overly so. It's got other mitigating factors that balance it out to a certain extent. Ruination, otoh, still packs a throbbing bitter whollop that really builds by the second bottle.
Fresh Sam Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner. Still never had a beer that has come close in terms of pure bitterness... More recently I'd say Hoppin Frog Triple Hop Dam. That beer was really made to be an intense over the top hop punch, but does so without sacrificing a nice taste.
Definitely Green Flash Palate Wrecker. That beer is terribly unbalanced...which in this case is not a bad thing at all.
Odd. I had palate wrecker and I didnt think it was that bitter. And I hate bitter. My palate must be messed up from all the DIPA's I've had recently. I had storm king a few months ago and I thought it was bitter as balls.
Hopsickle is crazy bitter (and delicious). Smuttynose Finest Kind is probably the most bitter single IPA ive had.
For me personally, India Pelican Ale was extremely bitter-in a good way. Also this thread is making me crave some Hoptimum.
Short's Huma Lupa Licious and SN Optimum are up there but for me, Palate Wrecker really lives up to its name.
The Oracle from Bells. Or just the altbier from Zum Uerige. It is the balance, the IBU to FG ratio, the sulfates in the water, and so on.
Green Flash Green Bullet, just truly brutal. I couldn't finish it. Had it after Sucks and Founders Centennial so that showed how truly bitter it was.
Fresh palate wrecker or the imperial they make. Ruination is interesting as well, I don't find it that bitter at first but when I get to the bottom of a bomber it is a juggernaut.
Palate Wrecker. Definitely. I love tricking my wife into drinking it. The face she makes is priceless!!
