I'm not sure how many of you saw this already, but just figured I'd pass it along. The tentative Big Wood tap list that Brouwers put on Facebook http://www.brouwerscafe.com/bigwood.pdf
Careful with deviation, IMO it has passed its peak and is starting go downhill. It is now over 4 years old and at sour fest this year it seemed to be losing its overall sour goodness and started to pick up apple flavors and other off flavors. Just my opinion but, it is nothing to what it was a couple years ago. If you have bottles I would suggest drinking them now...but it is still a great rare beer, just past its peak.
I've never had gotten the chance to try it. I missed sour fest, I've gotta try it at least once, even if it's not what it once was.
I hope they add North Sound Creepy Monkey, which is a 12% double version of Goosetown Brown aged in three types of whisky barrels. I tried it recently, and it was outstanding. The BB Imperial Porter on tap last year was quite good too.
I found it a little too hot, and I'm usually a big fan of North Sound's stuff. It was (and may still be) on tap at Mutiny Hall.
I tried the HUB's army of darkness at the Burgundian back in the spring and I was absolutely blown away by this beer.
There were no XXII bottles, just kegs. They had an issue with the chocolate not blending properly and leaving a buttery foam appearance in the beer. Quality control said no go releasing it. With that said, I don't think much of it was kegged either.
This has been on tap several times around Portland and bend. I think the QC issues weren't apparent in the kegs so this is where most of it ended up as.
This is good to know, I have been looking for a bottle for a while now. I would be willing to trade a good amount of rarer stuff for one if anyone knows someone!
Ferocious Five led to me getting a hotel room in Hood River this past summer....damn is it tasty.....and big.
It'll sneak up on ya! A beer that needs to find its' way into a bottle! The gf and I had it at the Portland International Beer Festival, great Double Mountain taps to be had, along with all the other breweries. After 2 days and about 45 tickets, Five was the standout for me. Luckily we stayed only a few blocks from the festival as I never would have made it home otherwise.
The list has been updated; same link. A few things dropped off (Deviation, XXII). Who'll be there tomorrow?
IMO the adds more than make up for the removals. Looks like the beer fairy granted my wish for North Sound X-Batch imperial brown (aka Creepy Monkey) too. Tough choices will have to be made tomorrow. #firstworldproblems
I wont be able to make it until after 5. Keep us stuck working folks updated on the highlights/interesting stuff.
Fort george makers oatmeal stout dropped off the list thismorning, too bad. HotD Pannepeuch is my favorite so far, HUB Army of Darkness my second favorite. I liked PT slurring moon, but I wish it had a thicker mouthfeel. North Sound is a bourbon bomb as expected, but I'm cool with that. Naked City Opacity is next up.
Have liked cascade black raspberry and upright apricot 7 the most thus far. Pannepeuch and driftwood singularity also solid.
Fo sho'. Those were a killer pair, Pannepeuch close behind. I've never had so much delicious wood in my mouth. Another awesome event Brouwer's and crew!
I think the American Stupid Sexy Flanders was my favorite of the ones I tried. Upright Apricot Seven was probably number two. I also had and enjoyed Army of Darkness and Pannepeuch, but was a bit disappointed with the Dry Fly Old Sol.
Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme or Cascade Black Cap Raspberry were probably my favorites. That 2011 Abyss was drinkin damn fine on tap today as well.
