No, typically German places do not carry any non-Germanic beer whatsoever. As I said, the one place in Stuttgart that I linked to is a wine store that happens to have some Cantillon. There are websites that will deliver "Ausländer" beer, but it won't necessarily be cheap. Your best bet would be something like the grocery/beer section of a Galeria Kaufhof (chain department store) to see what they have, and even then it's likely not going to be anything you can't find in the US.

For German options that you can't get in the US, most places will carry Andechs beers and Rothaus Pils (aka Tännenzäpfle).

Dude, welcome to Germany, but why come to look for Belgian beers in Germany? Germans unfortunately have an intense, almost irrational hate/dislike of Belgian beers. Why don't you ask us which German beers to buy?

I'm sure your selection of Belgium beers in FLA beats what you get in Germany hands down. This is Europe, not the USA. They don't think like Americans, and each country in Europe is idiosyncratic and has it's own hang ups. Germans hate Belgian beer generally, and many other western Europeans don't care for Germans much either, but tolerate German beer. Dorothy, you're not in FLA any more.

 

I haven't seen anything but German beers in all of my searching in Kieserslautern. We have a Belgium beer bistro in one of the villages to cater to NATO people but that's about the only foreign beer I have seen. Any German I have talked to about beer is in the mind set of German beer is the best who cares about the rest.

I just got back from Belgium today and I thought it was funny how they had American, Canadian, Denmark, holland, and Belgium beer but no German varieties.

If you're in Kaiserslautern, it's not exactly the beer hotspot beer region to be. There are a few bottle shop-chains like Trinkgut (they have nothing else than Grimbergen here!), the nearest one from K'lautern is in Bad Kreuznach. Have you tried the Fristo bottle shop? It doesn't give any details, but just says they have Internationale Bierspezialitäten (could be Heineken and Guinness though...).
As been said before, Belgian beer is highly underrated (if rated at all) in general opinion in Germany. You are really better off just going there as you did. It's not far.
As for German beers, there is a Hofbräuhaus (sure, you know it already!?) from HB Munich in Kaiserslautern. They know where to put their places! And, close by, there's the Bischoff brewery in Winnweiler. Small, regional brewery in Rheinland-Pfalz. Don't expect too much though, it's wine country.
Another interesting brewery in the region (close to Mannheim) is Welde Bräu, K-Town should be within their distribution range I believe.

 

I think I mixed up some threads there. You are in Stuttgart, not in Kaiserslautern. (Still, my suggestions are not too far). Where is the guy who asked for beer places near Kaiserslautern?

 

No I live around K town. I had no idea Hofbrau haus had a place here. Every time I have been down town we never get to far off the walkplatz, it seems to be a few blocks from there. I used to think hofbrau haus dunkels was the best. I will have to check it out and see if I still think that. I have been around a little and came down to Stuttgart for the spring fest, the maltser wiezen was pretty good.

 

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check out fristo this week. Usually I go to the local Edeka and Globus for a decent beer selection.

We have bischoff at the class six, I haven't tried it yet its one of the last German beers there I haven't had. We have tons of schanwald, schwaben Brau, westiphaner, and urtyp 1878's there as well

 

Right guy, wrong thread. Person you responded to was looking for a good Pilsner in the 'Slautern region in a separate thread.

I have never been to that area except one time to see a soccer match, but if the "international specialties" were comprised of anything more than Desperados, Corona, Guinness, and a few Czech & Polish beers I would be surprised. Still, one never knows.

 

Not so surprising when you consider that the "Pfalz" (including Kaiserslautern) was part of Bavaria until 1946.
