Small Town Breweries

    I visited the newly opened Flatrock Brewery in Holgate, Ohio (population 1,109) this weekend, and I have to ask, how many breweries and brewpubs are located in small towns in North America? I can think of a few others in more tourist friendly spots, but who else is making it work in rural America?

    Name your favorite small town brewery.

    The one by me is North Country Brewing Co. in Slippery Rock, PA... great selection of great beer that rotates all the time, and great burgers!

    port jeff brewery is pretty decent... not rural-it's in the middle of suburbia, but still a small coastal/touristy town.
    (just released a barrel-aged porter I might pick-up:slight_smile:)

    Brau Bros in Lucan, MN! Although now they've gotten big enough that they are moving to a larger town... Excellent beer!

    My Pop, who was a young man immediately pre- and post-prohibition told me once that it used to be every decent sized town had its own brewery. He said it was a pretty poor burg indeed that didn't rate a brewery of its own. Glad to see we're getting back to that.

    Great River Brewery, Davenport, Iowa. Some solid flagships, especially their Roller Dam Red, and the risque-named Big **** IPA is a great seasonal.

    I didn't really think of Dogfish Head being a small town brewery. (wonder what the population in season vs off season for Rehoboth Beach?)
