This is a retail question, not for the release party this weekend at the brewery, but does anyone know where these will be available at in retail? I talked to the guys who own craft beer shops here locally and they said they weren't sure if they'd get any. I live in Raleigh so anyone who found some last year in retail could tell me where they got it so I can look wold be much appreciated!
The best advice I can give you is that if you're just looking to try it (as opposed to trading it or something), then just look for it on draft locally. I'm sure several places will have it over the next several weeks, and it may even cost you less per ounce.
Bottles are going out, probably not more than a case per store but your top craft spots will probably get some.
I've seen it on tap at a few places in the past, if it's 19 degrees out there tonight good luck and dress warm.
Retail is very, very limited. You are much more likely to find it somewhere on tap than find a retail bottle for sale.
I've had it in the past on draft, but never been able to get my hands on a bottle. In fact World of Beer in Raleigh tapped a 2011 SC that they had been aging in the fridge on Thursday night and it was fantastic. But I'd like to get my hands on at least 2 bottles so I can drink one and then maybe trade it for some stuff I've never had before.
Sam's got two cases in at separate times last year and they were gone in approx 20 minutes. As others have said, much easier to find on draft.
I saw on Twitter it's showing up in places around Charlotte and Asheville. Unfortunately, those are south and west of where I'm at in Raleigh. If anyone starts seeing them show up here in the capital city let us know so we know where to look. Many thanks!
At least one keg got tapped this week ... Tyler's Raleigh. Don't know if there's any left/how long it lasted. I think I may have seen a second tweet, just can't recall right now.
Bought 2 bottles (the limit) in Hickory yesterday. Super limited. Already gone. I'm giving them to a couple of awesome trading partners.
yeah, I saw on Twitter where Asheville and Charlotte were getting them, and of course Winston-Salem had some too, but nothing here in Raleigh yet. I'm kind of surprised.
Custom Home Pubs in Matthews NC had them on the shelf today, also had SC on tap along with Hopslam, and Sucks...not a bad 1,2,3 punch!
A small shop in Chapel Hill (Beer Study) has Sexual Chocolate and Pisgah Vortex II/Valdez alongside Death by Hops today. normally, Sam's holds on to one case in the back from the original shipment and puts it out later for the people that get off work around 5 (they do the same thing with Hopslam).
I need to get over there. I had a bottle of Pisgah Vortex II once, but swapped it with a friend for a trade. Never got another.
Recently traded a newly bought Valdez and apparently it was in poor condition. Haven't heard any other complaint though. Also drank my 4 year old VortexII, would not reccomend aging it that long.
Had it on draft this morning and I have to say much better than the first and previously only time I had tried it. Makes me want to open one of my Olde Rabbit's Foot bottles.
Any chance Columbia SC will see any of the bottles? I've had it on tap but would like to get a few bottles to trade/store for later.
Was just about to come say, my local TW (referenced in the post above me) has Sexual Chocolate in. I've never had it, so wondering if it is worth me making a trip over to pick one (or more mule style) up.
I'd say get two if you can and drink one soon and age the other one for a year. I did the same thing last year and its a major difference between freshly brewed and a 1 year aged bottle. Still really good though.
Went this morning before work, and they had a handful of bombers left at 1 bottle a person. That was early this morning though. Got 1 case in, may be the only bottles Greenville will see, but Green's will be filling growlers on Sat at 2 they said.
Just as an FYI, I just got a bottle last night at TW in North Hills, Raleigh. TWs would probably be your best bet at this point.
