Any interest from metro Detroit area BAs in getting some sort of tasting event together? Or does such a group already exist? Only a couple of my friends in the area regularly drink craft beer, so I'd definitely like to find some fellow BAs in the area to share some great beer with. Thoughts?
I know some of the beer stores have them, but I do not know of any informal groups. There must be some in A2 though.
They used to have monthly threads on BA to get things going, but word is that they stopped that due to people being douchebags at the events. Now everything is on limited invite. If you're starting something separate, send me an invite.
I would like to find someone kinda local to trade with. Hanging out with a bunch of doucebag guys doesn't sound like my idea of fun.
I'd be interested but also not a big fan of DBs. Maybe a good place to start. Perhaps some trading in a parking lot on neutral turf like Kuhnhenn.
There are tasting groups in Metro detroit and even the occasional AA ones as well. And yes they did go "underground" because of losers showing up, bringing pretty easy to find beers and taking large pours. I live in Detroit and I am always looking for locals to drink with. Start a conversation with me and I will hit you up next time I have something.
the metro detroit tastings are done as stated above "under ground" I.E. we do private message for them and dont post on the forum any more. yes there were some incidents that happend and it was not just big pours it was new persons who completly disrespected the house of the host. we always are inviting new people also.
This. We all enjoy hanging out with others, just have taken steps to know who we invite to the group to avoid incidents and big pours. Here's the aftermath of the one I hosted last night.
Dunno how I missed this, but I'd always be willing to come. I love sharing great beer with people who appreciate it, and many of my friends unfortunately do not.
Looks like a fantastic beer share. I would love to get involved in one of these. Unfortunately, I don't know many other beer geeks as I have been enjoying some of these gems alone. Let me know what the screening process is. I am willing to give my child as collateral.
It's actually pretty easy, whoever wants to host just posts they're hosting and asks who else is in. It's very informal and anyone can do it. It's tough when there's more than a dozen people as that means pours are extremely small, so it's easier nowadays to just post a date and go from there.
I was planning on hosting in late april or july so i will volunteer to open this up to any of the new folks in the metro are who have not be to any of the "secret under ground" tastings we do. this will be in my back/front yard since my house is very small but lots of yard space for tents and such.
I know I have met a bunch of the Detroit area BAs at various events and would love to get together for a tasting here and there. And I know for a fact that my wife would appreciate me thinning my bottle collection at bit. If there are any coming up, I'd love to get an invite.
If it became regular I would take turn hosting. We have a pretty big house with a small bar on the main floor.
That's pretty much what we do. Most of the time it is great. There's been an occasion or two with a dbag present.
Sorry, my friends are in the "looking for a serious relationship, let's have babies stage". You should run far and fast.
I know I'm safe. I have 0 game and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the ladies dept especially when beer is flowing and of high calibre. Consider me, in.
For the record ... Red Dog was the winner of the night! In my book at least Funny thing with "the club" all of the wives and girlfriends are forming there own!
You can hang out in the rape shed at my June tasting with Kyle if you like. He has no game either and he sat in there half the night trying to score.
