This Saturday (1/23) 1PM on the patio. Bring some beers, glassware, and buy food or drink. Cheers! James
And tip the shit out of our server, they are always really cool to us and have to clean up after our drunk asses! ;-)
Wish I could make it down - sounds awesome. Unfortunately, I'm on childcare duty because my wife is at a conference all day.
Wish I could make it out, got scheduled to work this sat. In town till May, so maybe I can make on before I head out of town.
I wish I had seen this thread sooner. I was at Freetail at 3:30 PM on Saturday and saw a small table with a lot of bombers on it. I figured it was some people from here but I did not have a bomber so I did not want to start getting "free samples" without my own bottles. Looked like a good time.
I'll show up to the next one if it's on one of my days off. I was also wondering if a Austin/San Antonio share would be plausible. It could be done at the Faust in New Braunfels
I didn't feel like starting a new thread, but where are the bottle shops in San Antonio worth a trip? I'll be heading to Freetail Friday night so I have some time Saturday morning to roam around before heading back to Houston
The specs is DeZevala and I-10, not really on the way back to Austin. There is however a new Whole foods in the same shopping center as Gabriels on 1604.
There's a new one at 281 as well. I haven't been there yet, so I'm not sure how good the beer selection is. DeZavala us pretty good. The new Whole Foods is great as well. Generally has some nice beers in tap too.
Ha....maybe next time I am down in SA and something like this happens. I have some bombers that I have been wanting to open but rather share them as opposed to be selfish and drink them myself.
I'll be at 1604 and i10, which means I'm down the street from Freetail and Gabriels. Awesome, guess I'll drop by as my car is being worked on and pass by Specs at 1604 and 35 on my way back to Houston. Thanks!
Thats a long way to get back to I10. I recommend going to Specs at DeZevala and I10. It's on your way back to Houston, the beer selection is better, the guys that work there know more about beer, and you don't have to take the giant loop that is 1604.
I guess to a Houstonian, driving half the way around 1604 isn't a big deal... but straight lines are always shorter. James, you really think Spec's DeZavala has a bigger beer selection than Gabriel's?? And Kyle & crew are more knowledgeable that Scott and Robert? Has this just changed in the last month since I've been gone?
Gabriel's is the best selection in town IMO. I like Specs DeZavala and Central Market as well. Those are probably the 3 shops where I buy most of my beer.
I like Gabriel's selection but there's like 3 guys at specs dezavala that I always see that have helped me out without even asking. I've never had that at Gabriel's. Granted I've been to Gabriel's less. I still don't see anybody I could ever think is a "beer guy" at Gabriel's though.
You must've gone into Gabriel's on the wrong days. It's very hard to walk around in there without someone asking you if you need help. I can go into Spec's De Zavala and walk around for 20 minutes without being approached by a single employee. Yes, I'm a former Gabriel's employee, so I'm probably a bit biased, but it's hard to argue with consistent observation. Or maybe I've just gone into Spec's on the wrong days.
Well, I don't work there anymore. I like Spec's De Zavala. It's a good alternative to Gabriel's (but yes, Gabriel's has a bigger selelction) and a shorter drive for me. I preferred Paul over Kyle, but apparently Paul's a floater now.
