If it hits the way the first two did, then my local HEB will get lots of both... which will make me happy.. I'm a big Real Ale fan.. so I'm really looking forward to these.
I've seen the imperial red at a few locations this week. In fact, I'm drinking the imperial red right now. Really hoppy, really good stuff. I'm still on the lookout for the dry-hopped porter though.
The World Market in Round Rock has the porter. They have several new releases in stock that are interesting beyond Real Ale's stuff as well.
Picked up some of the red for tonight... based on what I've head thus far I'm pretty excited about it.
Drinking the imperial red now as I type this. Definitely a red ale for hop lovers. Has a firm, lasting bitterness. To me, it's out of balance with the malt and comes across a little thin. But I keep coming back for more. It's interesting, but not earth shattering. Worth a try for sure - BK
Definitely not nearly as hoppy as lagunitas imperial red IMO. I really liked the lagunitas red with 6 months on it after the hops died down a bit. I like the real ale red now though and will age some a little also.
I just picked up a four pack of the Red tonight at Specs. Going to drink one tomorrow during the Texans game. (They have not received the Porter yet) Win or lose it will make the game better.
Had a bottle of the red tonight.... wasn't a huge fan... solid beer, but just not my style... I'm guessing I will like the porter much better... I loved the quad....
I picked up a sixer of the pale ale a night ago and it tasted terrible. When i first had it was great and I really liked it. Probably because I was in the mood for something decently hoppy and it really hit the spot. So I picked it over the Shiner Farmhouse ale, which I liked, because there's a chance I wouldn't have it again and it tasted terrible. I still drank it(shit has to be really really bad for a drain pour for me) but it was..something else. Anybody else have this happen?
Also... the porter still hasn't reached Houston... or the distributors aren't letting it out yet... I asked at Spec's smith street... and I've looked all over the Clear Lake area.
Like Smith's St. knows anything. Couldn't resist. Didn't see it at Holcombe or Bay Area the last 2 days.
Touche... Ice...touche... I did enjoy my time at Smith's yesterday as I don't make it up there much... I picked up a bomber of the Clown Shoes Pecan Pie Porter..... and then I went to the deli and kept trying the different cheese they had out for tasting... I ate a lot of cheese.
Wife said it tasted like soap, and didn't like it all. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but there was nothing off about the flavor. ALso did you drink it the first time after having a few other beers?
Maybe is has just faded a bit. It had been out for a while now. It wasn't great fresh but I didn't detect any off flavors.
Picked up a single of the Imperial red at heb spring. Didn't see any 4packs so.maybe they sold.out.already
I had the same experience. I thought it was awful. It seriously tasted like burnt rubber to me. I drain poured it and I can't tell you the last time I drain poured a beer.
I talked to one of Real Ale's brewer's about the #1 Single Hop Pale Ale getting kind of "rangey". I was pretty sure that would happen by now after the first time I tasted it. I thought it was great fresh but I could understand how the pungency of the Herkules hop might not apeal to all. This beer is over the hill now. I suspect it has to do with the high alpha acid content of the Herkules hop. It was a good experimental beer while it lasted IMHO.
