I've read that you need to go to "insert edit image" and then paste pic code in URL to post a pic in a thread but I can't find "insert edit image" anywhere. Could someone help.me out with posting from smartphone? Smartphones for dumb guys.

I haven't looked at the site with a mobile browser, but on any standard browser you'll see the row of formatting icons (bold, italics, bullet points, etc) just above the text box where you type your replies. The 4th icon from the right (I think it's a tree) is the insert/edit image button; click it, wait for the pop up box to appear, paste the URL of the image into that box, and click insert to paste the image into your comment like so:

Alternatively, it may be easier to simply use the appropriate BBcode tags, which in this case would be:

    Code:
    [IMG]www.somepicture.com[/IMG]

I've been doing the same thing on my droid, after the picture is uploaded to Photobucket, just copy over the IMG code and your picture will appear.

The only problem with photobucket is that if you post a link from them onto a high-traffic forum you'll exceed the allowed bandwidth fairly quickly and then they'll pull your picture. I'd suggest using imgur instead. There's also imgur apps for smartphones that allow you to upload photos to the site simply by clicking the share button from the gallery in your phone. Once it's uploaded it pops up a screen with links to your pic in various formats (including the BBcode style links used here) so that you can easily copy/paste them into a forum post.

Did this work? I am still having trouble posting pics. Please help. I have tried Imgur and Photobucket but not sure either are working.

It did not work. Viewing the HTML source yielded the URL http://s1164.photobucket.com/albums/q562/mecmd/ which is flagged as being in a private album. If you made the album public, it might work better.

I am enjoying all the cool pictures on late night beer advocate but I cannot seem to figure out how to post pictures. I have used photobucket and made my album public but when I try to post a picture it just shows a blank image thumbnail and requires others to go into my album on photobucket. How do I get my pictures to automatically show up on BA site without someone having to go into my album? Someone please give detailed step by step process of how you guys upload such cool pictures.

Bring up the picture in photobucket. You should have a lower case " i " in the bottom right hand corner. Tap on that which brings up URL link codes. Tap on the " IMG" code and a little box pops up that says it's copied.

Go to BA forums, BeerTtalk, LNBA and scroll down to the text field. Tap the text field and a little box pops up that says "paste". Tap that and your link should be good.

At least thats what i do from my iphone and it has worked every time.

I just wish imgur was placed on the list of sites for use-- they have an iPhone app that makes it easy to post pics...

Sorry, but what "list of sites for use"? imgur works perfectly fine. On the imgur Android app, there's a BBCode button that automatically copies the code for the picture to the clipboard, so you can just paste it into the text box here. Does the iPhone app not have that?

I can get the imgur link from my app, but on my iphone witg the current BA community I don't have the "toolbar" above the posting box to enable me to add the URL.

Oh, I see. You don't need the toolbar to post a picture -- if you hit the BBCode button and then paste, you'll actually be pasting [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/blahblah.gif[/IMG], which is the code to include a picture. Everything you can do with the toolbar you can also do by typing code like that. There are more details here. Hopefully that'll make posting from your iPhone more fun :)

If you go to your preferences page and uncheck "Use the rich text editor to create and edit messages", the reply field will be replaced with a normal text box, which should work normally, with auto-correct and everything. If you want to include pictures or bold/italic/whatever text or anything, you can use the BB codes I mentioned to AleWatcher.

Edit: Based on what AleWatcher said, I suspect that on iPhones the site detects it and automatically uses a normal text box instead of the rich text editor. If that's right, you should have the same experience on both Android and iPhone after you change that preference. Just FYI :)

A big thanks to all you BAs that have contributed to this thread! The info has been extremely helpful to me in getting on the right track to posting pics correctly. For the first time (as of a few minutes ago), posting a picture in the forums has ended in success!!

I keep my pics on Flickr, but they won't give my the image location when I'm on my iPhone. I have to cut and paste this giant paragraph that's designed to be put in these kinds of forums. They call it the BBCode. My problem is that when I post it there is a link to my Flickr account and I don't want to get in trouble for seemingly pimping my stuff.

    Comes up like this:

I've not used Flickr, but it looks like the mass of BBCode that you have to copy is something like this:
Is that right, more or less? In the middle of all that, this is the part that actually displays the photo: "[img]http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5453/7200519584_76aea3a6a5_b.jpg[/img]". If you copy just that part (more generally, the section between the [img]...[/img] tags), you should get just the photo without the pimping :)

I have a similar problem. The img tags have to be removed to be posted. However, my pic doesn't fit the page. How do I edit it in photobucket to get it to a standard size for BA?
  38. abraxel Member

    Location:

You don't need to worry about resizing -- when you post a large pic on BA it'll automatically scale it down so it fits neatly within a post.

For example, this picture would normally display larger than my computer screen, and I just embedded it with the simple [img]...[/img] tags:

I actually re-sized it, and now it's too small. Before the image was cropped vertically
Will try again. So just take the photo with an ipod touch camera, upload it to photobucket,
and insert it? How did you take your picture- with a smartphone?

Hm, I don't know why it would be cropped vertically. Can you embed the original (un-resized) photo so I can see in what way it doesn't work?

The picture above was just a random photo from the internet, but I typically do take pictures on my Android and upload them to imgur, which has always worked just fine for me. Here's one (without any resizing or editing needed):
