My personal scale is that I tend not to try beers that score below 80 on BA if I can avoid it. Having said that, I do try beers from time to time that I like. One such beer was this one: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10629/21260. I was able to get it fresh in Grand Rapids and actually enjoyed it. So, the title says it all - what's yours?
If we're using 80 as the threshold I'd say Yuengling..easy drinking and much better alternative to the macro lagers... http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23980/1351
Used to drink (and enjoy) Rolling Rock when is was brewed in Latrobe, PA (the version out of Newark by AB doesn't taste the same). Full of adjuncts of course, but I liked the slight diacetyl/skunkiness. Perhaps it was the ice-cold 7oz'ers after softball, those many moons ago.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/156/117 Tommykocker Maple Nut Brown Ale Not saying it's the greatest beer in the world and I haven't had it in years so I'm sure my opinion would be different but back about 10-15 years ago whenever i was in CO and everyone was drinking Fat Tire, Buffalo Gold and 90 Schilling I would take one of these any day of the week instead.
In that case, I'm choosing Chocolate Rain. At only 4.47, I think it's underrated. Because that makes sense as a choice according to thread title, right?
Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale. There's just something about it that I dig, and look forward to every fall. Rated 68 by BA and 41 by the BROS.
Blue Moon Grand Cru http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/306/54083I managed to get two bottles at $5 a bottle instead of the typical $10 most places wanted. Still over priced, but quite tasty. And since I'm on the topic of Wit beers, Shocktop is pretty good.
OP based on your avatar and example beer, you're gonna love this. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/402/87423
Desperados. Who knew a French-brewed tequila beer in a clear bottle could be so damn good? http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/197/15804
This. It was one of the first pumpkin ales I ever had and I like it. I almost feel obligated to like it since it was part of my initiation of getting into craft beer. Prior to that, I never really cared for beer and stuck with Guinness and Bass Ale if I really felt like having a beer. I've come a long way.
The Mission Amber score of 79 kind of surprises the hell out of me- one of the best domectically-brewed alts I've had.
Saranac Black Forest is an all time favorite, and imho one of the greatest of all times, to be redundant! Also Magic Hat #9
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/205/643 I enjoined it. However I go into trying any beer without looking at the rating. I feel that it clouds or sways my judgement if I peek.
I actually liked Voodoo Doughnut Maple Bacon Ale, although it may have been the 2nd batch (if there was one). For the record, I love smokey beers.
It may have an 82 rating on here, however a lot of people don't like this beer. I, for one, think it is excellent. I loved this the first time I tried it http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/30538
Enjoined? So you and this beer fused together into a single being? I guess that is one way of saying you "became one" with the beer. Sorry couldn't help myself
Its not really poorly rated but I thought Stone 14th was one of the best DIPA's I've ever had and it only has an 87. Also have a soft spot for Rolling Rock (canned is the way to go), Coors and Icehouse at least during the summer months.
How anyone can find shipyard's nutmeg seltzer water appealing is beyond me. But hey, to each his own. For me, I really dig SN summerfest and Abita amber as session lagers. Both are around 80 on here I believe.
Pretty annoying of the people in this thread who dropped a link to the beer instead of just naming it. I mean, really?
Speaking of Belhaven, I had a Twisted Thistle IPA yesterday. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either
Plus in the brewpub they serve it with the rim of the glass covered in sugary cinnamon goodness. Even the sampler glass!
Dude, is it that hard of a task to click a link and then hit the back button afterward? -10 points for lameness
Hands down: Bitburger. Love it and it ranks here as a 79. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/613/1641
Twisted Thistle was one of my first introductions into IPA's. Had it on tap many years ago at the now recently deceased Mahars in Albany and it immediately had me seeking out more (and now obviously better) IPA's. Cheers to Twisted Thistle.
I actually enjoyed Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. Several years back when I considered Leinenkugels a "superior" beer, I drank this a lot. I remember one time I went with my girlfriend to a Miller event downtown when she was a Miller Girl and they gave me a pitcher of it for free. I was in hog heaven
