    Hey guys,

Going to be going to Houston for the first time in a few months for a few days, and I'm just wondering what the must go to places for good beer in the area are? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I suppose it depends on where you're staying. There's a few standard stops like Flying Saucer, Petrol Station, and Hay Merchant, if you're looking for food and beverage; Rudyard's is also a very solid spot.

The main question is where are you staying at and how far are you willing to drive.

Not to Hijack this thread but I'm in the same situation, except I have kids.... so I would like to know a few kid friendly spots. I will have a car so driving is not an issue.

I am also looking to maybe have a meet up as I will be bringing some brews from CT (namely New England Brewing Co beers), but I will repost when I get closer to my arrival date. Thanks

Flying Saucer is kid friendly uptill 9pm. Not sure about others but I don't see any reason why Hay Merchant and Nobi Public House would not be kid friendly.

I take my son to Petrol and Hay Merchant quite often for lunch or dinner.

Hay Merchant, Anvil, Mongoose v Cobra and Downtown Flying Saucer are all close by. As well are D&Q Minimart and Spec's Downtown.

Cottonwood is a great spot. A really good menu, and always a rotating beer list. Family friendly with a huge patio for the wonderful weather Houston has right now.

Bars & Food: Hay Merchant on Westheimer. Petrol Station in the Heights. Hubcap Grill in the Heights (amazing burgers to add to a large craft beer selection).

    Purchase Beer: Spec's Smith & D&Q Station.

Growler: Montrose has a Growler Fill Station.

Petrol isn't in the Heights. It's in Garden Oaks FYI. :)

I'd argue that Petrol's Burgers are mucho better than Hubcap Grill.

Cottonwoods are better than both, and you get it within 15 minutes;) Neither Petrol nor Hubcap can do that.

I'll have to try them out.

I usually don't mind the wait at Petrol since I'm enjoying a tasty beverage among friends most times I'm up there.

It can take quite a while though.

Hahah I've been saying Heights all this time. Gracias for the correction.

Have you had Hubcap's Green Chile burger?

Man... Houston is doing all right if you want a burger with your craft beer....if only the Burger Guys would start carrying craft beer bottles the way hubcap does....

Here are two Montrose/Heights area places where you can get growler fills.

A great, true Italian style pizza joint that allows you to bring in your own bottles/growlers....

    The pizzas here are unbelievable.
