Greetings snow bears and bunnies of better beer! I hope this message finds you ready for another fine Sunday with new beery heights of exploration headed into your snifters, chalices, and goblets. Weather in Central OH is pretty typical for January. Had a big bolus of snow come through on Friday but it quickly subsided and we have a nice white glaze covering the landscape. Made it perfect for lighting a fire, watching "Rock of Ages" with the wife last night, and sipping on some Kulmbacher Eisbock. However, this is not the place to spend time talking about "go to" beers. This is the thread to talk about NEW BEERS. Pull up a virtual stool, sample a beer that's new to you, and share it HERE! Please post a linked review, a very good description (same rules apply as when you review), and anything else to give us a peek behind the curtain of your new beer crusades. None of us are professionals (at least I don't think) so the only thing that matters is your personal opinion of how the beer tickled your 5 senses. Check the last few weeks (weeks 412&413) if there are any questions about the intent of this fun little thread. I've got a boat load of International Business homework so I'll be checking back frequently to live vicariously through your findings today. Good day and good drinkin'. Peace, love, and malty-ness, Matt
***New Belgian Quad Sunday!!! Growler style: And here is my review: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/179/88005/?ba=Bitterbill Another beer that makes me proud to live in WY.
New American Red Ale Sunday! Greetings from the Jersey Shore, where it's 34 degrees and sunny, a bonafide heat wave after the last several days. Looks like the snow on the ground may be around for a bit, but there could be a thaw later in the week, hopefully. Wednesday might see 60 degress, go figure. Here's what I drank while thinking about lunch: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1805/13701/?ba=NiceTaps. Good choice. I opened another new beer with lunch, I'll get that up here a little later. Cheers!
Your link didn't work so I hope you don't mind me putting this one up. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1805/13701/?ba=NiceTaps
New AM. IPA Sunday, Greetings NBSer's, From icy, rainy SCMN. Don't go driving around here unless you like that skating feeling while handling the vehicle. Odd, odd winter here. We don't have much snow, but we have ice, and the cold temperatures to keep it around. Can I just say how much I admire Bitterbill for opening a growler of a quad before noon on Sunday. An achievement I don't think I could mimic. And while I'm dropping NBS names I drink today's beer to mimic an contribution given by JoeyBeerBelly last week. He assured me of it's worthiness as a NBS entry, so here for a repeat performance we have an American IPA from the heartland. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/689/49814/?ba=garymuchow Best to all this week.
Greeting's from the wet west coast of Canada , it's now the pm here so here goes , just finished one of three new release's from local brewer (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2675/89466/?ba=LampertLand) Phillip's Brewing 'Leviathan Milk Stout' – 5.5% – 650mLThe people have spoken, and, as the 2012 winner of the Benefit Brew Project, this Leviathan Milk Stout is a beer with a porpoise! New Russian Imperial Stout Sunday (made in the Mitten State) Lazy Sunday in West Michigan. Seeing a slight thaw after a pretty significant snow early in the week. I took the opportunity during some rare quiet time to enjoy today's offering from Atwater. Very interesting beer. Like the ZJ, if you gotta ask, you probably can't afford the VJ. Not really. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15280/67951/?ba=GRPunk
2nd New Beer of the day: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/9478/?ba=NiceTaps. There's a lot of citrus hop in this at 28 ibus, it threw me a curve. As much as I love hops, I wasn't expecting it from Gumballhead. I wasn't bad. Now best for last, just crackin' a Heady Topper ( not new, but just like new every time!).
-----------/* NEW RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT *\--------- Got this as an extra from a recent trade-- thanks Reza!! The beer is Remy from Taps Fish House & Brewery. Here's a closeup of the head; Here's a little peek at the legs: I guess im more excited to play with my new phone than actually drink this beer, so ill forsake the full review for a short note here and a had rating. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2700/65009/?show_hads=Y It looks good (as seen in photos), but it feels a little thin in the mouth. Not bad, but not terribly earth-shaking. A 3.75 out of 5. Big roasty notes actually comes damn near smokiness with a bitter acrid note on the finish.
New Baltic Portah Sunday! Kicking back with a 3Beans or two to celebrate a successfully relaxing weekend.
Sleeting and icy here in Chicago. Thought I'd try a local for new beer Sunday this week. Two Brothers Imperial Stout out of Warrenville, IL. It poured a deep brown color with a dark tan 1 & 1/2 head. The head dissipated quickly to a thin, disappointing film. It sort of looks like flat cola. a bit of lacing when swirled. It smelled of dark chocolate, coffee and a bit of roasted malts. The taste was a bit harsh. The chocolate was bitter and the coffee tasted burnt. There 's a harsh alcohol taste there too. Not much in the way of sweetness at all. It doesn 't taste bad, just not what one would expect from the aroma. Wonderfully full & lush mouthfeel though with a nice medium finish.
Greetings fellow NBSers! A typical rainy, 40ish day here in the Fourth Corner. I had took a nice, wet walk with my Nephew, the Mastiff/Rottweiler mix, earlier today, and I'll have a few new brews for y'all later. But first I must ask your forgiveness. The interwebz at the local bar I use wouldn't let me access BA last Sunday (although, it's working fine today) for some reason. I was going to give a big shout-out to BA Dopplebockulus. I made a smart-assed reply to a thread he started a few weeks ago, he had the good spirit to take it in the way I meant it, and even sent me a nice box of beers, and I'd like to post the reviews I would have posted last week. Thanks again Dopplebockulus! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2372/21950/?ba=beertunes : and http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17981/46363/?ba=beertunes. I'll be back in a bit with today's offerings to the temple of NBS!
And the first of my post dog walk brews was this very tasty, bottle-conditioned, Pale Ale (which, incidentally, is owned by former Formula One driver Jody Scheckter): http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18067/44149/?ba=beertunes
Happy NBS to all... Clear and cold here on Long Island but the good news is it's going to be above freezing the next few days. We went out to brunch for my brothers b-day. The place we went to didn't have any FBS (or any craft beer besides Sam Adams for that matter) so I had 2 bottles of Guinness Extra Stout with my meal. Back at home now and working on my 1st new beer of the day... Weyerbacher Merry Monks
New American IPA Sunday Haven't posted on NBS in ages, but it seemed appropriate since I added a new Sierra Nevada beer to the database. Beautiful day here in Burlingame, CA. High 50's sunny. Good IPA weather. A buddy of mine went to Sierra Nevada and brought back a bunch of goodies including two bombers of Hop Harmony (review here http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/89472). A very solid IPA all around. I'll add a photo to the page in the next few days. I particularly enjoyed the unique subtle spices. Cheers all!
Hello everyone! Third week in a row on the New Beer Sunday. After almost two weeks of snow and frost, finally it rained today and most of the snow has already melted away. Now, going to work on a weather like that with the bike, has taken its toll on me. Thankfully not so bad, as I don't have any fevers, blocked nose, shivers and this slime around the cheekbones that my girlfriend gets, but I have a clogged ears feeling, so I am trying to fight the cold with high ABV beers. Tonight I am drinking an Arnhems Dubbel, a beer that is exclusively brewed for a beer shop i Arnhem. I visited for the first time the other day, since he had a cool offer (a free glass with 4 small bottles of Kasteel Cuvee Du Chateau) and grabbed a couple of those too. I haven't yet added it but here is my review and here is a photo along with the free glass I got
Next up is one from the Dopplebockulus box, a tasty and interesting beer that, nonetheless, actually bored me with a one-dimensional character: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17981/59173/?ba=beertunes .
My friend Rampaige brought this one back from a recent trip to Barbados for me. She's in Puerto Rico this week, maybe I'll have a PR brew for NBS soon? http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/272/69971/?ba=beertunes
Well, I'm a ticker, so any beer is cool with me. She brought me the Banks lager from Barbados, I'd expect that PR could easily match that.
And a good one too as the overall score shows. I wish I had friends travelling abroad and bringing me beer!
So, I think it's only fair to have a couple brews at the bar whose access I'm using, and while they always have new and interesting stuff on tap, I usually try 'em earlier in the week, so that makes 'em ineligible for NBS. However, here's one I've never even heard of from Deschutes: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/59921/?ba=beertunes
Good Evening NBS Imperial Red Ale for me tonight as well. Brisk and chilly here in Southern, CT today but with bright sunny skies. Spent the day doing any variety of chores, home improvement, etc. My wife made some sauce today which I cannot wait to have shortly with some stuffed Rigatoni! I tried this brew a buddy gave me from what appears to be a newer mid-west brewery: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22513/86945/?ba=CHADMC3 I tried another beer from them a couple of weeks back and felt about the same on that one as well. Not quite what I was expecting as my review states. On a side note, I refrained from hittin up 3 Bean from Sixpoint since I officially tried my first one on Friday. If I have room for another beer after dinner I may get back to it, but not NBS qualified. The point is, if you see it, try it. It's worth the few extra $ to sample. A unique twist on the Baltic Porter IMO.
>>>>>> New Winter Warmer Sunday <<<<<< I'm starting to clear out the DBF of the winter ales in anticipation of Spring. Today it's Fireside Chat. Not a bad winter ale, perhaps a bit long on the dark fruit flavors. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/735/62732/?ba=RJLarse It came in cans too which is something I am starting see more and more of. Still very much winter here in eastern Washington. We just topped freezing for an hour so around mid day, and now we are headed in to the 20s with a chance of snow showers over night. Spring can;t get here soon enough. Happy Trails!
Finishing off a 4 pack of Sixpoint Resin, actually the first beer I've had by them. Little disappointed by it, with the 89/90 rating I was expecting something more but it tastes like they just dumped a shit ton of hops in and canned it.
The wife is drinking the last Sculpin (it was new to me yesterday) and I am drinking my first Founder's Imperial Stout. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1199/21822/?ba=Chickenhawk9932
watching devils vs canadiens and having this new brew. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45/78521/?ba=sfsean28
New American Porter Sunday Good evening, guys. The temperature is dropping here in Central NC, and theres freezing rain predicted for tonight/tomorrow morning. When that happens, everyone has a fit. Theres a decent chance I have a delay tomorrow morning. After a tasting this afternoon, I came home to a bottle given to me by RedneckBeerz. Really thick, heavy body. Very hoppy (lots of pine). Honestly, this would make a world class Black IPA. The finish is bitter from the roast AND the hops. I like it alot. Thanks Gary!
Well, one of my favorite regional/local breweries had brewers night that I attended the other night, and somehow this one slipped past me, so here's my last new brew for this NBS. Cheers all, have beery and fun week! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1066/89479
>>>>New American Double/Imperial Stout<<<< Good evening! NBSers. St. Louis awoke to cloudy skies and freezing rains with temps hovering slightyl above freezing. As the day went on temps rose but skies remained slighty cloudy with some slight fog moving in. Pretty nice weather for a lazy Sunday. I didn't do much but sit around and read while my wife studied for her Professional Engineering exam. Afeter dinner I decided to enjoy this: photo-49 by JoEBoBpr, on Flickr 2012 version. Pretty amazing brew IMO. Great cocoa notes both sweet and bitter. Nice roast mixed in there as well. Here is a link to my review: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1549/67156/?ba=JoEBoBpr Salud!
my first was allagash black. was very nice at room temp. a little more bitter than beers I usually drink, but pleasantly so.
You've got to love New Beer Sunday! (especially when you are sitting on your back patio in 75 degree Texas weather!) Today I tried Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale....the verdict....an incredible beer! Loved it...a nice 102 I.B.Us but not too overwhelming. A great way to end a relaxing weekend. Reviewed it here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/220/35738/?ba=AAG
Happy NBS from Tennessee! Today I opened my first Event Horizon from Olde Hickory from NC -- an amazing brew! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/7753/64226/?ba=sommersb
