99 Bottles is nearby in Federal Way so i will probably do my stock up there ($100 per trip variety packs). Tacoma, whats it to offer? Looking for taprooms/bottleshops with good beer on tap & variety. Moving from Portland,OR where it is Beervana. Just want chill places where i can get good beer on tap and sample... Thanks A-
You're in for a treat. I used to think Tacoma was only good for Domes that occasionally house Boys II Men and 98 Degrees reunion tours and "aromas," but that city is a good place for beer! E9 is doing great things (Thanks Shane!) and almost next door you can get crazy hot dogs and awesome beer at The Red Hot (Thanks Jeff!)
Yep. Seems like the beer scene has really improved over the past couple of years. When my GF moved from Seattle to Tacoma a couple years back, my initial reaction was one of disappointment (from a beer standpoint). I thought for sure I'd be driving up to the Uber, Duck Island, Collins Pub, etc., on a pretty regular basis. That has not happened. E9, the Redhot, Pint Defiance and the Parkway Tavern are all great, and if I need something that is particularly rare and/or limited, 99 bottles will usually have it. Otherwise, Pint Defiance has a very solid bottle selection (maybe not quite as good as what you'll find at Beermongers, just as an example, but pretty close), and their prices are decent. I tend to go there rather than to Tacoma boys, the metro or the new BevMo.
Damn John, Is there any place in the Northwest you're not intimately familiar with? WTF are you doing back East at all??? I'll be in Eugene tomorrow. Any chance?
I just work out East. I "live" in the NW. Unfortunately no (about Eugene), not yet. 3 more weeks here in Morgantown and then I drive back to Oregon. The GF is helping me househunt for homes in Eugene until then. You probably know this, but for such a small town, Eugene has quite a few great places to grab a beer. Portland it's not, but Bier Stein, 16 tons, the original Steelhead, Ninkasi and Oakshire are all pretty decent. I plan to make my last trip out to SEPA to complete a beer trade this weekend. Anything I can pick up for you while I'm out that way Larry? I'll be stopping by Capone's bottle shop and State Line, so it would be no problem to pick something up if there's something you want from the East Coast. Capone's is having a "meet the brewer" event with the folks from Bullfrog tomorrow, so there's a good chance there'll be something interesting in the bottle shop from them as well (if that interests you). Cheers!
When are you coming? Shoot me a BM when you get to town. You may be leaving Beervana but we know how to roll in T-Town. You won't be disappointed.
Nice glad to hear there's some cool places in tacoma. Ya my regular spots Bailey's Taproom, APEX, Saraveza, Belmont Station, Concordia Alehouse etc will be missed. Ill definitely look into these places when im moving like July A-
Why do you Tacoma people never mention World Beers for bottleshops? You scared of the neighborhood or what? lol
Nothing w/ the neighborhood per se. I will let my beerfly review speak. There are better places in town so when people ask for the best places I provide the best places. There are a few other bottle shops in town that are decent and we could mention but why send them all over town when you can hit the best in one swoop.
I can't get over the fact your moving to Tacoma from Portland.. But if you must, Stanleys has the largest selection... Below the Cliff house restaurant, is a little pub that has a few local craft beers..
Man, you guys act like he's moving to WV or something. PDX is an easy day trip from Tacoma (just over two hours each way), one I make all the time. For that matter, maybe some of you folks from PDX can come up from time to time. It's really not such a bad place.
So according to you who is the best bottleshop in Tacoma? I haven't been to World Beers or Pint Defiance lately, but WB had a better selection than PD the last time I was down in Tacoma. I was a little disappointed over PD. It was a lot smaller than I expected.
Well, I don't judge, rate, review whatever a bottleshop strictly on selection. Customer service, ownership and atmosphere also play a role. I will take PD every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
T-Town is closer to PDX than it is Tha 'Ham. Need to get down there for weekend, time to look at the Raniers schedule.
Tacoma's getting another brewery also. Sweet location for view of the Narrows. http://threesheetsnw.com/blog/2012/...rage-among-changes-at-tacomas-narrows-marina/
Sounds more like early summer, acccording to this craigslist ad. Anyone looking for a job? http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/mar/3659309047.html
The Marina is just down the street from the GF's house, and I run by there every day when I'm staying up in Tacoma (actually, University Place). It's been several weeks since last I ran by, but it still looked as if there was a lot of work left to do at the time. It's coming along, but I think a Spring opening is probably a bit overly ambitious at this point. Early summer is probably more realistic, though even that would be pushing it, based on what I saw last time I was by there. Regardless, once the work is completed, it will be a VERY welcome addition to that part of town.
Reason im moving is GF got into PT Grad School Puget Sound & I can job transfer to Tacoma...next question, where's the safest, cleanest apartment areas in North Tacoma? Like 2mile radius max from Puget Sound University A-
If you're looking for a Rainiers game let me know. Got a small "in" there. Can probably swing some on field action before the game, behind the scenes tour, and free beer.
Nice beer area too. Centrally located to everything you need. I live North Tacoma/Ruston/Proctorish area about 2 miles from UPS. Look in these zip codes: 98407 and 98406. These are all Proctor, Pearl and Ruston/NE zip codes.
