Just did a quick TABC label approval check, and nothing yet on it. I sure hope we get it, though - sounds great!
They've posted here in the past that their special releases tend to take a while to get here due to label approval. But we always get them. The owner's wife is from Houston, I believe, which is why TX was one of their first markets outside of MA.
Our Third anniversary beer is Luchador En Fuego, a 100% bourbon barrel aged version of Chocolate Sombrero that we up sized to 11% and added more ancho chile, more cinnamon, and chipotle pepper. The release will be mid to late December.
Sombrero is great, so I'm drooling about this one. Being barrel aged, though, means it probably won't sit on the shelves like Vampire Slayer has.
I'm imagining it will resemble the Porcine Unidragon release. I felt pretty lucky to be able to grab one...never saw one after I purchased my 1 and only bottle.
You could be right. Vampire Slayer was their 2nd anniversary beer and had a big release, but barrel-aging imposes more limits.
We've got a couple shipments of Vampire Slayer since it's release, so it's definitely a different animal than Porcine was... We only got 30 cases of that goddamn beer for the state. Luchador isn't approved yet. It may be in the process of being approved, but it's neither here nor immediately on it's way. I'm hoping it shows up, sounds pretty great.
LOL. Porcine Unidragon was that limited? I must've been beer shopping the day it came out because I saw it twice and didn't buy it.
Well, a pretty limited amount was released here. You can still get it at Spec's though. I think the label and the name are so close to Blaecorn Unidragon that a lot of people overlook it. It's great, BTW.
I seem to remember seeing it at Brodie on an endcap. I remember picking it up, seeing the price, and immediately putting it back and getting some more Schmaltz Jewbelation 16.
That would make sense. I refuse to step foot in Brodie any more. I'd rather go without than go to that store
Hey guys, Matt from Clown Shoes here. We are indeed waiting to send Luchador to TX, everything is submitted and it's just a matter of time until we get the approval. Thanks for all the support and enjoy the Luchador! BTW Vampire Slayer started as our 2nd Anniversary beer, but it's become one of our most popular so we've made it into a year round offering, which is why you still see it at stores. Cheers
I got sick of getting the run-around at that store. There have been so many times when I've asked them about something I know they have and they tell me they don't, then I hear about someone who went in later and got it. Its very clear, at that store and Arbor Walk, that they hold stuff back for select people. Which is fine, but dont lie to me and tell me "oh no, we never got that" when I know you did. Tell me that its gone, or that they're all spoken for, but dont tell me you never got it. I dont enjoy being lied to. Then there's also the issue of how much dusty, outdated beer is on their shelves, and the stuff they keep up front in the sunshine.......
Jester King, kissed with sunshine! *mwa!* I only go there if I need liquor. I mostly hit up South Lamar Wine & Spirits though, out of pure laziness and the fact that I live half a mile away. CM Westlake and smaller locally-owned bottle shops where people know their shit and have a better rotation of inventory serve me better for beer.
My guess is this will be really hard to get. From what I heard Houston got less than 100 bottles of Porcine Unidragon. I got lucky that a buddy was at the right place at the right time to get an extra for me. That said, I'd love to try the Luchador as the Porcine was tasty. I would love to see a BA Vampire Slayer... rool:
TX was allocated 60 cs Your wish is our command... as long as you can wait until October.... you heard it here first!
You heard the man! Send them our way! Also, don't worry about the metroplex, they don't even drink beer over there!
Sadly we all lose that your city drinks crap beer... actually most every city anywhere loses that... Damn BMC!
This is going to be a tough get, but it sounds like more than the Porcine. Can't wait! This excites me greatly!
What ever happened with this one? - Chocolate Sombrero is one of my personal favorites, Best damned stout not in a Bourbon Barrel.
