Brooklyn Black Choc. Stout. Had it on tap few days ago, and was phenomenal. Didn't expect it to be as good as it was.
agree with the op few and far between. im my case 3 years in now its been there, done that. however the bourbon county really stands out, only 4 left from my first case. this beer is simply (by far) the best ive ever had, the only thing that comes remotely close is the recent draught release of hop 15. so there's two beers. i dont think its possible to make a better beer than these 2. and i dont expect to find one.
Last night - Ipswich Oatmeal Stout. Been drinking this beer for at least 10 years now and it still blows me away each time I drink it.
Didn't think I would post in here again after dick waving the Don Q Last night Brewtality brew my mind. also agree with subpoena on both his. e-stalking.
Cigar City / Swamp Head Church On A Hill - Cognac Barrel Aged It is very rare for me to open a large format bottle by myself. It is even more rare that I finish drinking a beer that big and immediately open a second bottle of the same thing. Yeah, that happened here. Im anxious to try Leon and the Imperial Sweet stout that was also aged in Cognac barrels. Cognac Church on a hill raised the bar for me not only for barleywine but also for barrel aged beer.
Some recent beers that impressed me are Aroma Coma, Big Bad Baptist, Oud Floris, Love Child #2, Ephraim, Otiose, Cascade Blueberry, Imperial Biscotti Break.... man, I've been drinking good.
Recently had the Eclipse 50/50 Elija Craig 12 Year that's been sitting around since May. Phenomenal! I prefer it to BCBS. Such a silkly mouthfeel, and more vanilla than chocolate. Big, but not hot, and soooo drinkable. Too bad it's so expensive.
I don't know that it really BLEW ME AWAY, but the last really good beer I had was "Heart of Darkness" by Magic Hat.
Ok, I had this one last year but it's worth mentioning for its sheer awesomeness...Rodenbach 2007 Vintage Oak Aged Ale (Barrel No. 230) Better than amazing, it's only 7% abv but ages so well. One of the best and most complex beers I've ever had. Pretty hard to find, but I have access to some, if anyone's looking for a trade ; ) No, but seriously, shameless plug aside, I'm not kidding.
Having my first Expedition Stout right now and it's tingling me just right. If everyone seems to nod that this thing is better with a year or so on it and I'm liking it this much fresh, woo boy...
I thought it was awesome when I had it fresh. I drank two sixers. But I put 3 away for age. It was bottled Dec 2010. I still have one left, I am hoping to save it til my 30th bday in 2015.
I had an espresso sublimenely self righteous tonight that was muchhh better than I was expecting. If you're into black ales and can get this, give it a shot
NODA (Charlotte) and CBC (Cambridge) I had several offerings from each brewery and they were all extremely good.
Oblique Coffee Blonde at Cascade. Wow, totally blown away by the creativity. Great coffee flavor, great mouth feel, and a surprising amount of hops (60 IBU) that I think would normally disqualify it from being a blonde. For a place that is known for it's sours, Cascade is starting to brew some pretty great non-sour stuff as well.
First time having bcbs and backwoods bastard was this year, just awesome brews. Glad I got a few four packs too enjoy all winter!
I have to say Mad River's John Barleycorn 2010. On the lighter side I'm blown away @ how much I enjoyed Breckenridge's Agave Wheat. I'm real picky w/lighter abv beers and the stuff I've had from Breckenridge up to the Agave has been average to underwhelming.
Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch in calvados barrels with at least six months of age. Thoroughly impressed.
WOW, I have a new one from Black Friday...we had several GREAT beers, but I think the Hardywood Park Gingerbread Stout stole the show.
Jack's Abby- Kiwi Rising and Boulevard-Saison Brett were the last 2 beers that made me take a big step back and say "whoa".
2012 Olde Hickory Event Horizon this past Sunday. Whoa nelly. Hella good. I thought that the '11 vintage was kind of meh but this year's is the real deal. I'm actively fantasizing about it right now...
Russian River Supplication on draft at the brewpub. If I took notes, it would only read: "Holy shit thats good".
