My brother-in-law (who's clueless when it comes to good beer) has offered to pick up a bottle or two for me while he's there working next week.
I don't want to ask him to spend too much time searching though.
I'm hoping someone might be able to give me a couple of shops that I can relay to him to check out.

He'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Phoenix-West on 1500 S 51st Ave - I'd like to keep it as close to his hotel as possible

I actually have no clue what is readily available there - just know from the distribution map what MAY be around.

I may be way off base on this - but the ones that I thought might have a shot are:
Anything good from The Bruery(I know - it's all good, right?)
Alesmith stouts or Grand Cru Ale (or Alesmith IPA if nothing else)
Or any other stouts available, which are highly recommended.

If it was me going down there, I would've loved to bring something down and set up an IP trade - but I can't ask him to do that for me.

My thanks in advance for any information at all towards this quest!

Alesmith is readily available here. Looks like you are from Minnesota? Not sure what you can get down there. San Tan Brewery is one of the finest local breweries we have here. As for places to purchase. Total Wine and More has the largest selections in one place. We have quite a few of them around our valley and I believe there is one within short driving distance to where he will be staying. But, here is a list, not even close to being a complete list but a lot of a few beers we are able to get.

    Locals (brewed in AZ)

    San Tan Brewery
Sex Panther (Stout) seasonal. Avail now
    Devils Ale (Pale Ale)
    Hop Knot (IPA)
    Rail Slide Seasonal Avail now

    Papago Brewing
    Oude Zuipers (Tripel)
Elise’s Irish Cream Stout (Sweet Stout) (growler only from the brewery but awesome)

    Lumberyard Brewing
    Big Rapid Red Iimperial Red)
    Inner Basin Barleywine
    Fireside Ale (American Strong Ale)

    Sonoran
Sonoran 200 (crazy strong ale made from agave nectar)
    Inebriator Stout
    7 Wives Saison

    Mogollon
    Apache Trout Stout
    Wapiti (Amber)

    Four Peaks
Hopsquatch (American Barleywine)(growler only at the brewery)

    Nimbus
Old Monkey Shine (English Strong Ale)

    From other states.

    Dog Fish Head
    60 min IPA
    90 min IPA

    Stone Brewery
    Arrogant Bastard Ale
    Double Bastard Ale
    Stone India Pale Ale
    Stone Pale Ale
    Stone Smoked Porter
    Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale
    Stone Ruination

    Deschutes
(get anything from this great brewery)
Abyss (this one goes without saying and there may be still some if you ask staff at beer stores)
Conflux #1 (collab with Hair of The Dog!, one of the best beers made by anybody, anywhere) (American Strong Ale)
    Chainbreaker White IPA
    Black Butte Porter
Black Butte XXIV (Imperial Porter) (ask staff at beer stores)
    Obsidian Stout
    Mirror Pond Pale Ale

    Epic
(get anything from this great brewery)
Smoked and Oaked (Belgian Strong Dark Ale) (amazing)
    Elder Brett (Saison)
    Big Bad Baptist (Imperial Stout)
    Fermentation Without Representation (Imperial Porter)
    Sour Apple Saison
    Hopulent (DIPA)
    Utah Sage Saison
    825 State Stout
    Blue Law Porter

    Bell's
    Hopslam
    Expedition Stout
    Third Coast Ale
    Cherry Stout
    Java Stout

    Olde Bluehair (English Barleywine)

    Alaskan

    Lost Coast
    8 Ball Stout
    Great White (Witbier)

    Coronado

    Marin
Point Reyes Porter (criminally underrated, a world class beer)

    Mission
Dark Seas (a great Imp stout which gets no love)
    Mission IPA
    Shipwrecked (DIPA)

    New Belgium
This is tough since they make lots of beers and it is very hard to say what will be on the shelf. Stuff I ve seen around recently that I would buy:
La Folie (Oud Bruin)(this is an epic beer)
Peach Porch Lounger (sour peach ale)

When i made the list quoted above is was designed especially for a guy from MA to include beers from breweriesd he can't get in MA.
However if you are from MN there may be many other beers to add to the list worth looking for
I suggest you make use of seekabrew.com
and compare AZ to MN and then check for what we get that you don't.

Alesmith won't be too hard to find: i have seen Grand Cru and Speedway, Anvil and IPA on shelves with the last two weeks.
As for the Bruery the good beer stores have had within the last week: Rueuze, Oude Tart, Tart of Darkness, Smoking Wood, Rugbrod, Autumn Maple, 5 Golden Rings, Saison Rue, Trade Winds Trippel and one place has White Oak as well. If you are luck you might find a Fruet too.

The best beer selections are at stores in Tempe, Scottsdale, and Mesa not all that close to where your bro will be.

    Holy crap!
Thanks for all the info Bro!
You still have Abyss? That sells out in like a week here.

I'm going to have him call Total Wine first - Thanks

So no Bruery in Phoenix - but Alesmith yes!

I appreciate all the help - you think the Total Wine will have the Alesmith?
I went on their website & didn't see much of anything really

Or did I read this wrong - is there any Bruery in Phoenix?
Any specific stores? I can look up phone number for him.

    Thanks

We get Bruery stuff. Google is your friend and total wine.com generally has stock up to date.

Go with AleSmith, The Bruery, etc. as you initially asked. In my opinion just ignore the AZ beers altogether.

I was at two different Total Wine stores today, and they both had Speedway on the shelf.

Can you give me a couple of the names of stores in Tempe & Scottsdale which may carry The Bruery.
That is what I'm really after.
I don't mind calling around, but I need a starting point.
I basically want him to bring me back 1 or 2 750's or bombers so I pretty much
need to find it & then tell him where to pick it up.
    Thanks for your help!

I can't agree with you any more! That really blew me away!!!

Thanks to everyone for all their input.

I'm still trying to find a few stores that may carry The Bruery - I've checked Total Wine's website & they all look pretty cleaned out of inventory.
Any place within 5-10 miles of Phoenix?

AJ's on Camelback & 44th usually has a few Bruery offerings.

GCM in Gilbert has quite a bit of it. Flanny's had White Oak in their to-go cooler on friday.

And I'm going to add, at the risk of YM's scorn, I like the Phoenix Ale Ironwood Imp Porter!

I haven't tried the Imperial Porter, but I confess I'm not one of that brewery's best fans.

    Check your mail...
Sun Devil Liquors (Mesa), Tops (tempe) will have multiple bottles of six - eight varieties
Papago Brewing (Scottsdale) tough call: they et everything but stuff sells fast there
Total Wine maybe ...call if you must patronize that place
