    Hey guys.

Long story short, my mom's friend from college ( she went to UVM ) had her father pass away recently and the service is in Waterbury VT on Saturday December 29th. We are from the Albany NY area and my parents graciously offered to pick me up some Heady Topper, and I'm looking for a case.

Here's the question: Would they be able to pick up a case from the cannery on that date? I know Topper flies out of there and the closest canning date will be the previous Thursday. ( Maybe it will be dead because of the season...?) They also make deliveries to the surrounding Stowe, Montpelier, etc. the day before.

I'm just looking for some advice to make it as easy as possible for my family to grab a case on that date. Thanks.

They sold out last week at around 11:30 on Friday.

highly doubtful on the saturday right before New Years Eve. i'd bet on a friday midday sell out at the very latest.

there really isn't a dead time anymore. we are in between foliage and skiing seasons and it is harder than ever

that's what I was expecting. If it's probably going to be gone that day any recommendations for a store to try? ( Friday delivery to Stowe, Montpelier, and Mad River Valley ) This is like my only opportunity to pick up this beer for a while so I'd really like to make it happen if possible.

They should keep a small case limit, It'd stop certain stores in the Westchester area from driving up there and buying a crap ton of it to sell in their bar. Or at least limit that, Plus I'd be able to justify the drive up there for my own consumption if I don't think I'm gonna show up to an empty cannery!

I'll be there the same weekend to do our annual MRG skiing trip, except I don't ski...I just drink beer.

My aunt in law came down last weekend with 4 4-packs for me that she reserved at Winooski Beverage in Winooski. It's a little farther North of Waterbury but they do reserve so you should be ok. I suggest you give them a call by the end of the week to get some. Good luck!

Also try Hunger Mtn Coop. in Montpelier and Corner Market in Richmond if you get shut out at the brewery. About 15min. east and west of Waterbury, respectively.

Saturdays not looking good since it didn't even make it to Friday.

We canned Thursday but we are out already (even w/ a case limit!) we'll have more Sunday @11am.

The alchemist was crazy today! Half hour wait to get beer. Line was wrapping around the building. They'll be out by 1pm with the 1 case limit. The staff was awesome, brought everyone waiting in line outside samples. I've been going regularly since they opened and I've never seen anything like it.

Word is spreading of its greatness (Couple weeks ago, I posted about it in a non-beer setting, and a bunch of people piped in how they always stop by when anywhere near the brewery, and about how much they love it - surprised me).

So much for the hoopla about Pliny being the most hard-to-get beer ... Yummy!

They recently tweeted about keeping the 1 case limit until they say so, Rejoice!

Hopefully they'll lift it when those new tanks are up and running.

I'm sure they will. They'll be doubling production

Yeah at least they are upping production to deal with increased demand.

Its brewed year round at 600 cases a week, Pliny is much harder to come across I would say.

When it is brewed, isn't Pliny available in all 3 left coast states and in limited quantities in Colorado and Philly/D.C. sometimes?

Heady is only available at the source or in the Stowe, Burlington, Mad River Valley areas...

...As for Pliny being much harder to come across, I would say that's a bit of a stretch...

EDIT: Now that I think about it, isn't Pliny brewed year round?

Heady is sold out... Just go to The Hill....it's simple, go where you are sure to bring home beer....incredible beer without any question whether you will be able to sample AND take it home....
  32. Tzonis Member

I agree with DrinkingIPA though I have never had Heady. Have had some beer from The Hill and it was awesome.

Would somebody clarify what days the cannery actually has cans available for purchase, assuming you arrive early enough? And on days it's not available where is the best place to look in upper VT?

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they can at the cannery on Mondays and Thursdays. different around Holidays.

Healthy Living in South Burlington gets a shipment Wednesdays around noon (lasts a few hours usually). Winooski Beverage gets it around the same time but they seem to use a waiting list now so very little available to the public.

The grocery in downtown Richmond also gets it on late Wed morning and lasts a few hours. Sometimes they hold some over for Thursday morning.

    Translation - it's a PITA.

If you want to increase your chance of getting beer, call a week before going and find out exactly what days they will be canning and be there early that afternoon.

    Now was that so hard?

P.S. I know this information is out of date for your question, but this question is normally asked on a weekly basis.
