Agreed. Let's say that on average, a bottle of beer from a $10 6 pack will sell at a bar for $4...that's about a 2.4x markup (3x markup for $5). Taking that into consideration, $40 for a $20 bottle doesn't seem too unreasonable. I haven't heard of a bar selling their cherry rye bottles for any less than $40

Good for them for leaving money on the table. Whole Foods was also charging $14/bottle for coffee. Last year's prices...

It's a pain in the ass at WF to change prices on things...regional probably never updated it

I understand they updated it eventually... over a week after it hit the stores, by then most of it had long since been sold.

i think i read that they were charging 35 for cherry and 30 for coffee. still not ridiculous imo given the price increase this year.

edit: re: smallbar division, not whole foods

The other factor is SmallBar had it first anywhere, even before liquor stores. So maybe they didn't want the top story of their coup to be "OMG $40 a bottle!!1"

evolution had cherry and coffee on sale the same day at 2pm. $26 each.

Right you are. Evolution priced it high, SmallBar low, relative to their competition.

lol nice try, but nobody posts prices after tax

That would make price comparison COMPLETELY useless.
