Scot, you can get pitchers of Coop at some places. I know you can get pitchers of F-5 at Upper Crust in Classen Curve.

So sorry to hear about the fires around you. You know you can call me any time if you need anything!

P.S. Oklahoma may be behind with distributions, but our BAs are kickass and our cellars don't suck either!

OK...I am finally able to get the strength together to post...9+ hours of gang banging followed by an early morning tee...not a very smart man I am.....

First off...big thanks to our chums in the PNW! As we stated right after opening, we were blown away by the generous selections you offered up! We knew we were in for a long night so we all left work early and got started at 3pm. Here is a detailed list:

    12s-
    Maui Coconut Porter X2
    Deschutes/HoD Collage No. 1 X2
    HoD Adam From the Wood

    Sound Brewing - Ursus Spelaeus
    Black Raven - Schwarzeit
    HoD - Blue Dot

    750s-

    Cascade - Sang Noir
    Cascade - Apricot Ale

We decided to attempt to keep track of our thoughts as we consumed these...it actually worked rather well!

After many rounds of beer, food and Kan-Jam, the winners of the night were.....

Gold - HoD Adam with a solid 9.33
    Silver - Abyss 2010 with an 8.8
Bronze - 3 way tie, each with an 8.67, Sang Noir, Apricot, LeTerroir

    We had quite a spread...

The food was great...thanks to everyone for sharing!

The previously thread mentioned sausage and balls were a huge hit...

The rain held off, so there was Kan jamming at our Gang Bang...

What did you guys think of the Sound, Black Raven and Fremont goods?

I remember really liking the Sound, not really liking the Black Raven, & I don't remember the Fremont because I think I was fairly well in the bag by then. mgbickel has the group scores for each, though.

You are pretty right on Nate...

    Sound - most diverse scoring on the night...rated from 5-8 {6.7 avg}
    Black Raven - everyone gave it a 4 or 5 (second beer of the day to be fair) {4.5 avg}
    Fremont - well received...8s and 7s from all {7.5 avg}

    Scale was 1-10 FYI

Oh yeah. I think FosterJM is itching (no pun intended, too many gang bangs can cause that to happen)and ready to bang it out solo. That dude must have Ron Jeremy like stamina.

I'll be setting up round 3 sometime in September. NJ's Bang is scheduled for sometime around then, since we opened up the boxes and posted the haul at our packing party.

Hopefully, anybody who is planning on joining next round would be kind enough to review this thread and get an idea of good and bad ways to participate in a gang bang, and at least give your target the courtesy of a reach-around.

Also, some ideas I'd like to run by you Gang Bang veterans:

    1. Should I eliminate the ounce cap, and just assume that the boxes will be monsterous?
    2. Should I have the team captains submit a fully documented box contents list prior to them shipping, and advise if they need to add or remove bottles?
    3. Do I need to vet every member of each team, or would the captain's references be sufficient, as I utilized this method this past round?
    4. Should there be a rule for including a certain ounce amount of beers with a specific rating on BA? I kind of like leaving this to the discretion of the teams on what they want to send.

I just want the participants of my BIFs to be happy with what they receive, but please know that I'm not going to be tolerant of issues like we had in this round. One participant with the clap can ruin a good Gang Bang.

    1.) YES
    2.) NO
    3.) Just El-Capitain
    4.) NO

I think people participating should actually know each other personally though. People who are just throwing out "Hey I live in Rhode Island, anyone out there want to group up for this" makes the packing/hosting/actually having it, much more difficult it appears....

    1. No, ounce cap gives a good boundary of when to stop, and it's not like anyone sticks too it too much. I say keep the cap, it keeps teams from getting bitter by giving a reason for the ounces sent.
    2. No, we are adults and beer drinkers and should know what should go in a box. Send out what you would be stoked to get. Some beers will be misses, but hey that is honestly half the fun of gettin a grab bag, and makes those great beers taste even better by comparison. If a team cries about the quality of what they received, maybe they should reevaluate the standards by which they are judging and appreciate what they recieved. Similarly, a sending team without a doubt NEEDS to spend 10 minutes to do their due diligence and confirm what is and is not available in their target state.
    3. No, the onus of shitty team members should reflect directly upon the leader, as they are the official contact. Can't take the pressure? Don't volunteer to be leader. With that said- sorry Libbey, I'm about to drag my butt around on the carpet like a dog for fun now.
    4. No, this isn't "unwanted whale BIF xx", this is gang bang baby, we send what we send. It is all about mindset, don't be bitter that you are fucking the fat girl at a gang bang, just be stoked you are fucking at a gang bang at all. It wouldn't hurt to strongly suggest that one or two heavy hitters be included to make the team happy, but in no way should be required. Again, I feel this falls to due diligence of distributing (teams get off your ass and hit some nano breweries) and sending out a box that at the point of packing the box the thought should cross your mind "man, fuck these guys lets keep these for ourselves!"

The problem with that is that it’s hard to find regular tasting groups between 5 and 8 people who meet on a consistent basis. This may have been a lucky case for Cleveland (considering you guys had 9), but in more rural areas and larger states like Oklahoma, Texas and Minnesota, it can be hard to meet the requirements of membership. I can open it up to a wider range of tasting group sizes, though it made it rather difficult to assign teams, as I never assigned a target with a gap of more than one member more or less than the sending team. Tried to even the playing field as best I could.

My only concern with lifting the ounce limit is the disparity between hauls from small to large teams, and vice-versa, but honestly, this is a gang-bang, it should probably not have so many rules.

When I ran round 1 I had a group that was pretty unhappy about the haul they received...it was never made public though.....

Very few BIFs go without someone feeling like they got the shaft (he,he)...when this many BAs are involved, you are bound to have a few people complain...it's like how may rat hairs are passable in one chocolate bar...

Brady - I am very impressed that you are going to QB another round...I know how much work it takes and with a newborn (I know how much work that takes also)...good on 'ya!

Thanks man, appreciate it. This one was rough, but honestly, every BIF I've run, somebody isn't thrilled about their box or target. Shit happens, just assume the risk by joining.

I'm also really impressed with some of the teams boxes, a few of the gangs went way above and beyond, and far exceeded my expectations. Love the enthusiasm, and really am looking forward to round 3.

I'll also state right here and now, that if any teams want to rejoin in the next round and can commit some time this autumn, I'll give priority to teams who've already participated. All teams are welcome back if they choose to rejoin, and will cap it again at 14, and I'll leave re-signups open until I post an official signup thread welcoming new teams.

I think a "soft" ounce cap should be stated. Obviously a lot of teams will go over, but at least provides a realistic expectation of what should be sent.
  29. Jparkanzky Member

That would be a "minimum" no Jimmy Cap in this Bang!
  30. DSlim71 Member

With a soft cap, teams could still send less if they wanted, so it really wouldn't be a minimum.

Really, we should avoid capping anything soft. Don't want to just mash it.

1.) No. The ounce cap made our team try to maximize the quality of the beer we were sending. We thought we did a solid job. But as the receiver of the biggest shipment (thanks Cleveland... ya jerks ;)), we just invited more local Buffalo beer nerds over for the party (I think at full-on gang bang we were at 15/16 people). Some groups just can't get than many people together at once.

2.) No. We didn't have our full list until the day of wrapping/shipping.

3.) No. Captain should be responsible. It's on him/her.

4.) No. Sometimes "wants" are lower than a specific score. I mean damn! Can someone please send me a Cave Creek Chili beer, already!!! It's on my wants! WTF!!!

You did a great job Brady. I wouldn't change a thing. Cheers!

P.S. - I hope all is well with the baby.
