Thinking of picking up some Hoppin' Frog at Craft Beer Cellar later and was curious which impy BA's tended to prefer. FYI, I really enjoy thick coffee stouts like Espresso Oak Aged Yeti & Peche Mortel, but any suggestions/comments would be appreciated!

I would say BORIS, just because DORIS has this really sweet, dark fruit thing going on, which I really need to be in the mood for...

Haven't had either in a while, but BORIS > DORIS > BA BORIS

    One of each...
The BORIS was at the top of a blind RIS tasting I did with some other heavy hitters including Victory Storm King, and Bear Republic Big Bear.
DORIS is basically BORIS, with more of everything that makes it delicious

I prefer BORIS for a couple reasons:
    Price is way better
DORIS can be a bit much sometimes, BORIS is much more balanced.
BORIS is hard to beat, I think it ekes out Raspy and Storm King, but not Zhukov.
Oh god yeti... I forgot, yeti is right up there with BORIS id call it a tie.

I think I may like BORIS just a tad more but it's too hard to judge. If you like Espresso Yeti and Peche Mortal then I think DORIS is for you. The dry hopping of DORIS gives it some nice coffee-like bitterness.

How much is your BORIS where you get it, because where I get mine BORIS and DORIS are the same price with BA BORIS being like 2 bucks more

Man I don't remember offhand, but I know doris is like 15 bucks for us here.
Haven't ever seen BA in stock.

dang, glad I live near the brewery; DORIS/BORIS is like 12 and BA was 14 last time i picked them up. but i guess it offsets that you can get Zhukov and i cannot :(

I have bottles of BA Boris, Doris and regular Boris in the post. Judging by what I am reading, I think I am in for some good imperial stouts :D

    DORIS > BA BORIS> BORIS

    How I reviewed them.

    Cheers!

If you can find a gold cap BA BORIS, I would recommend that. I absolutely loved the one I had, it was delicious. DORIS and regular BORIS are very solid options as well.

I have enjoyed both many times. Fresh and some age on them too! Excellent brews! If you can swing it. Buy two of each. Enjoy one of each now and try the second bottles later. You won't be disappointed!

    Cheers!

    I would probably choose DORIS

I would choose BORIS just for drinkability purposes. DORIS to me was just too intense that it fatigued the palate. I love big impy stouts, but damn DORIS really dialed it up bigtime. It's amazing, BORIS is a huge beer, but DORIS? Damn.

BORIS is my pick simply for balance and smoothness.

Can't go wrong with either but DORIS is better in my book.

Thanks for all the feedback, I'll definitely have a tough decision later (even if it's deciding how empty I want my wallet to be). Also, was curious to see how people felt about FBS vs. other coffee stouts. I was excited to try FBS given all the hype, but I found it to be much thinner than Yeti or Peche and bit harsh in terms of bitterness... not a bad beer by any means, but certainly not as incredible of a stout as I was expecting.

Peche > FBS > Yeti in my opinion. I absolutely love Peche Mortel, and if it wasn't so pricey, would have it in my fridge at all times. FBS is the solution to that problem price-wise, because when it's available, it is in my fridge at all times :)

This year's FBS is definitely thinner and less flavorful than previous years, at least in my opinion. My cousin thinks it might be because Founders rushed it out to meet demand, but whatever the reason, it's not as good as it could be. If you manage to find a bottle of last year's version (or even farther back), I think FBS will prove itself worthier.

For me it goes BA BORIS > DORIS > BORIS. I felt all three could have been more complex, with some more char notes in there, but I liked them all for what they were. They were all very rich and nice. The richness is what stood out in each case. Boris had a chocolate ice cream note going on. Very nice. Doris brought additional chocolate, closer to chocolate lava cake and a mild offsetting bitter element. Gold cap BA Boris smelled fantastic and refined. On the palate, it matured things a bit, taking the chocolate in a less sweet (but still sweet) direction thanks to interplay with the subtle coffee, wood, and whiskey notes. The mouthfeel was sublime and pulled in like pudding - one of only two or three scores of 5 I've ever given in the mouthfeel category. In regard to their "bigness" I say if you're going to pay $15 minimum for a beer, it had better be big.

Both are amazing. BORIS is probably my favorite RIS, but DORIS is much more intense and is thick like motor oil. BORIS is more classic, but still insanely flavorful. Both are great..

this thread reminds me that i bought a bottle of DORIS > 1 year ago and forgot about it. huh.

can't comment on the comparison, but BORIS is excellent.

BORIS over DORIS by a small margin.

BA BORIS is one of my favorite BA stout out there. Pricey, but the quality is certainly there.

Between standard BORIS and DORIS? It's a crapshoot. DORIS is a huge beer.

Ended up grabbing a BORIS and a Hop Heathen. Figured I'd start small and work my way up if I feel so inclined...

Yeah, in that case BORIS Royale is even better. But it was really hot when I first tried it. I have a bottle from the first batch aging, and I have a feeling time will turn it into an incredible stout.

I think there's been a couple batches, but it's more limited than all of their other stuff.
