Thoughts on these 2 beers - my two cents they are very different, but to me Founders is the better beer
Founders for the win. Too bad they won't be bottling anymore of it. I've been getting my fill of Red's before it's gone.
I'm s huge fan of both, but Red's is fantastic. So balanced. It will now be available seasonally in 4 packs.
I prefer SN, guess I'm in the minority here. I only tried Founders once, maybe it wasn't a fresh six pack.
What! they are not bottling it anymore? Founders Red's Rye PA has got to be one of the best brews ever. Why are they discontinuing bottling? Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye is good but Founders in my opinion is definately the winner.
Please see profile picture. I think I got a bad bottle of Ruthless when I had it, though...so maybe not fair. It honestly tasted like licking a dusty car seat bottom.
here's the details about red's rye from founders: http://foundersbrewing.com/latest-news/2012/2013-availability-calendar/
Honestly, not even close for me. In fact I think Red's Rye is very under appreciated for how good it is.
+15 on the Founders. I really wasn't a fan of Ruthless other than the art work for the bottle/packaging.
This kind of thread again? Anyhoo, Red's Rye easily. Ruthless Rye tasted like little more than Torpedo with a bit of spiciness to it.
I liked both about the same. I found the Founders was more sessionable, though less interesting than Sierra's Ruthless. Of course, we're talking a Rye PA vs a Rye IPA, so while it's not quite apples to oranges, it's at least grapefruits to tangerines.
I'd have to go with Ruthless Rye based on the wow factor I had after first having it....mabye that's because it was early on in my craft beer experience but I distinctly remember being blown away by it! I have had Red's Rye as well, phenomenal, but as far as a beer I distinctly remember the edge goes to Ruthless!
As TheSixthRing points out, We are dealing with Rye PA vs Rye IPA and as far as my tastebuds go I prefer IPAs thus Ruthless!
I thought Ruthless Rye was pretty good, but not spectacular. There is something about Reds Rye that just completely turns me off. I have tried it on several occasions and have never been able to get through a bottle, just not for me I guess. As far as rye beers go Cane & Ebel is my favorite...
Founders. But I will be buying Ruthless Rye, it's good and will be more available than Founder's until September.
Ruthless by a mile. I really wanted to like Reds Rye but just didn't. I only had one 6 pack of it compared to many Ruthless Ryes and I found it to have a not great aftertaste. It was a fresh batch, but maybe there was something else wrong with it. Long story short, Ruthless was perfect and delicious every time
I'm not often in Michigan but when I am I drink Red's Rye. That said, I drank my fair share of Ruthless while it was in season last year and I have a feeling I'll do the same again.
