Regardless of where you stand politically, I think we can all agree that a first lady who even briefly mentions homebrewing is pretty damn cool.

Great story. I love the idea of home brewing
at the White House. Maybe a few decades from now we can read stories of home grown weed in the White House garden.

I don't care where the current administration stands politically.

I FULLY support homebrewing in the White House. And if anything, the office of the POTUS is a good platform for introducing Americans to new things, such as craft beer and homebrew.

And aren't there still a couple states in our Union where this would be illegal? Or have the last backward holdouts finally wised up?

Quite frankly I find stories like this to be a bit fluffy and more of beer gossip than beer news. Despite my feelings I cannot deny that there is some benefit to the cause when a recognizable name does bring the subject to light.

Mississippi is backwards as hell and still holding out on legalizing homebrewing. Certainly doesn't stop us, though. Thanks for the cool story!

No way she could like drinking beer, to much calories.

definitely cool to see this mentioned, hopefully it will help out states like Mississippi and Alabama.

The only thing I can object to is the lazy wording in the NPR article that goes in more depth on the brew. They state:

"During this year's Super Bowl, President Obama created a stir by offering guests at the White House beer that he'd brewed himself. "

When the article the link to as a source clearly states:

    "
They are the first presidential couple to ever charge their chefs with the ancient--and now wildly popular--art of homebrewing, according to White House"

Is it just me or does Obama have a "Dear God please help me keep this down at least until the picture is taken" type of face in both pics? He does not appear to be enjoying it.

Really! Haha and the second shot makes The First Lady look as though she'd just mouth vomited a bit, doesn't it?

No politics w/ me here, but I'm glad the attention has been brought to beer. Re: honey from the WH garden beehive, I've always understood that consuming honey within a mile radius of your home is good for your allergies.

I see more of a 'got-damn, this is tasty' look, but I guess it could go either way.

I'd like to think that, too but then why the hell did he choose Bud Light for his beer summit? /facepalm

Related to that is the "uh oh, I so want to get drunk on this sh&t!" look.

The promise that this beer would not go above 8% abv was not fulfilled. Heck, in some parts of the country, it is almost double that.

I heard post rationalization though, that it would have been worse, had not this administration's homebrewers fixed the prior homebrewing administration's gaffes in terms of regulation and sanitizing the equipment.

If only the guys before had regulated the sanitization, this recent batch would have been less than 8% unemplo--, er I mean abv.

    4 more beers!!
