Opinions on what your top few (less than 3) Sam Adams beers other than the obvious Utopias regardless of BA ratings. I feel like all BA ratings for Sam Adams are subjective, therefore this could be interesting. Mine are:-in no particular order Hazel Brown 13th hour Oktoberfest
Triple Bock. It is genuinely my highest rated SA beer (3.73). I don't rate much of their stuff though. I do love Boston Lager, Noble Pils, Old Fezziwig and a few others. The majority of their beers were my introduction to beer styles during college.
I really like: Stony brook red choc bock holiday porter When I was in Boston last fall their Oktoberfest was my go-to if there wasn't anything neat on tap.
Probably in order Hazel Brown Chocolate Bock Octoberfest Shame I've never seen Hazel Brown or Chocolate bock for sale individually, only in samplers.
They had a blackberry porter a number of years ago, loved it. I see chocolate bock listed here a few times, can't stand it one bit.
Sample B Maple Pecan Porter (only had once on-tap), Octoberfest, Winter Lager, Boston Ale, Noble Pils I liked a few of the Longshot beers over the years too.. there's a few they could've given its own release to..
boston lager? pretty much all we get in canada, lol. in all seriousness, oktoberfest probably takes the cake for me.
Noble Pils IPL Maple Pecan Porter These three aren't even my favorite styles. Plus there are plenty others that I've enjoyed but I think these are the best based on style and flavor.
Boston lager Imperial stout Cranberry lambec (I'll probably get blasted for this one) I like just about anything from Sam Adams. The only one I'm not big on is the cherry wheat.
Cream Stout and Old Fizziwig are my two favorite. I like almost everything they offer except the Cranberry lambic and the summer ale that tasted like lemon peels.
After looking at my scores: 1. Sam Adams Imperial Stout @ 4.4 2. Dark Depths @ 4.2 3. Fat Jack and Merry Mischief were tied @ 4 Hmmm . . . Good thread, as I look at these scores and wonder if they`re inflated due to lack of knowledge or previous bias. I will be most likely revisiting these brews. Probably shouldn`t question myself on this, they just seem a bit high.
I also like their Dunkel Weizen. I think that one should be available all the time everywhere. Awesome beer!!!
StoneyBrook Red New World Tripel Boston Lager I have liked all of the small batch products I have tried. The Vixen would be the absolute fave if it was available. Sam Adams runs the gamut for me from good Lord that is awful to yummy can I have another.
Merry Mischief, Third Voyage, Imperial Stout. Also 13th Hour, Tasman Red and Holiday Porter deserve honorable mention. And let's not forget Cream Stout and Latitude 48. Honestly, the thing I love about Samuel Adams beers is that when they're good, they're GREAT. But on the flipside, when they're not very good, it's dramatically bad.
