I tried a 2009 BCS a year ago and now I have a cellar of amazing beers. I just attended my first KBS release where I met some great people and tried some amazing beers. While I stood in line chatting and sharing beers I thought " we don't need a beer release to get together and do this". SOOOOO let's all get a date and a place and all bring some of our most precious beers wether it be comercial breweries or home brews that we share. So I live on the Northside of Chicago and have some great Forest Preserves by me that would be a great setting for such an event. So ...everything starts with an idea ....this is my idea JUNE 2nd, Chicago's 1st Annual "CBLBS" Chicago's Beer Lovers Beer Share(and trades are always gonna happen). I can contact local Chicago Breweries for a keg or two from each and then we all bring the rest for what could be a "Guinness" Book of World Records Event!
Like the idea and would definitely be in to participate... Might need a different date though as June 2nd is both the milwaukee beer barons world of beer festival and two brothers' hop juice festival... Thoughts?
I would be interested in doing something like this. It's like a company picnic but with good beer and people you actually like (assumedly)!
I'm in and I know for a fact that Van Patten Woods by the Wisconsin border allows you to have beer. I'll cook burgers if needed. What preserve where you think of having it at?
I would like to see it happen somewhere just a bit north of the city, in "those" forest preserves. I think it would be tricky getting them to sign on though.
It would be perfect is 45 minutes for Chicago and Milwaukee. And it's only like $100 to rent the site.
not too bad, yeah it is like 15 min from where I am so of course im in lol. I think it would be a great locale, I cant remember, is that one that has the small pavilion too?
I just remember playing a gig at one of those parks a few years ago, it was def near wadsworth, it was smaller though and a bit further south I think.
Glass beverage containers aren't allowed in Cook County Forest Preserves but alcohol isn't banned unless you've somehow planned your picnic at an alcohol-free grove. Of course, glass containers being banned is a pretty big problem for a beer share.
I threw a company picnic at the forest preserve I mentioned above 2 years ago and we had nothing but glass bottles. No one said anything to me about it and it isn't listed "no glass" on their web site Sorry just noticed you specified Cook County.
Some friends of mine are hosting a bottle trading a couple of days before DLD on April 25 at Jake Melnick's in Chicago. Should be some very nice things on tap as well. http://www.facebook.com/events/236723636424481/
It's great to see soo much interest, I have been getting a ton of emails regarding date and location. How does June 2nd work for people. We are gonna need help spreading word and helping to organize it so send me a message if u can help make this become a reality. Send me ur ideas of where u think would be the best location. This could be the start of something REALLY BIG .Thanks, Fitz
I'm likin the 16th as well... Don't think there's anything going on is there? ...and thanks again for posting/organizing. Let me know if you need help!
I like the idea...I would bring all the heavy hitters from Michigan! As long as it's not a weekend that I have a softball tournament
So far this place looks promising.... gonna check it out this week along with some others Ryerson Woods 21950 North Riverwoods Road Riverwoods, Illinois 60015
Please keep me posted as well. I am definitely game. I will spread the word among my fellow beer guys.
