Sweetwater IPA and 420 are pretty good. Anything from Three Floyds. Daisy Cutter is a great session. If you can get to the midwest, Pipeworks is pretty rad.

If you want something a little out of the norm for pale ales pick up Highlands St Terese's pale ale. It's different but really good.

I don't know how or why, but I swear we got Anchor's Christmas Ale on our shelves before the Humming Ale this past season. I wanted to try Humming Ale really badly, but couldn't pull the trigger so late into the game.

Man, that's too bad. I've had it both fresh and with some months on it, and it just isn't the same beer at a certain point. If that's the case, you are probably better off just getting something else.

If you have a good enough relationship with your store maybe have them ask their salesman what's what.

It wasn't just at one store.

Sixpoint Righteous Ale is a really good rye PA. Actually, everything I have had from Sixpoint has been really good at worst, and outstanding at best.

Summit EPA. I think they distribute to the east coast. One of the beers that got me into craft and available freakin everywhere in MN.

Dale's and Sierra Nevada's offering, hipsters love to turn their noses up to it just because of how available it is

Sierra Nevada is always a great choice. I recently had Deshutes' Red Chair for the first time, and was very pleased, it made the cut to buy next weekend because they stop brewing it in May and I'd like to have more. Yummy.

    Cheers.

The couple I find myself returning to are Dale's Pale Ale, Sierra Nevada, and Great Lakes Burning River too. I think those have all been mentioned but they are all readily available to me.

One of the best examples of the style is right in your backyard. Blue Mountain's (Afton, VA) Full Nelson.
    Thank me later.

Here's a question: can anyone recommend some pale ales that aren't too hoppy? I had Flying Dog's Doggy Style a couple weeks ago, and although I actually wasn't a big fan of the beer, I think I realized that I like more balance in a pale ale.

    • Deschutes Red Chair
    • Sierra Nevada
    • Ska Brewing Euphoria

I'd say that Boulevard Pale Ale is one of the most balanced I've ever had. Founder's is also pretty balanced.

Full Nelson Virginia Pale Ale is the best pale ale I've had from the VA area
