Personally I can't really drink too many IPA's while out because if so I become crazy lethargic and all I want to do is go home and sleep. I usually limit my IPA consumption to one a night because of this.
Barleywines if I'm at home chillin. After a couple its naptime. If I'm out doing stuff, then I'm fine.
Daft. A beer out of St. Louis from Urban Chesnut. Two sips and I was out. I woke up drunk, had a few more sips and thought about going back to sleep. That beer destroyed me. It was the best beer I've had in a while.
hops were once used as a sleeping aid and thought to be 'an unwholesome weed that promotes melancholy'. Before I got used to em, IPAs would put me out
Weird. Until I get to beer number 10, I just continue to get more and more riled up. I've never noticed beer making me unusually sleepy.
doest necessarily make me tired when i drink, but when im laid back in my chair on my third or fourth beer its lights out. i wake up with a lot of half filled glasses
Some imperial stouts make a pretty good nightcap for me. RIS in general dont make me tired I can have one earlier in the day and be fine, but sometimes it just feels right later at night.
3beans, founders breakfast, bourbon county coffee, jo mama.... Don't the brewers realize I like to drink beer at night? (Of course they're all brewing these delights just for me )
I have one of these in my cellar. I am currently trying to liquidate my cellar and Super Bowl was my barrel-aged stout day. Planning a barleywine day here soon and that will be on the lineup for sure. Glad to hear you liked it.
Anything over 9% ABV usually makes me sleepy, especially if I'm drinking at home so I try to limit myself to one or two a night.
I got the Daft for Christmas. I wish I had another handful for cellaring. It's an incredible beer. I'd sit on it a year or two and then have some friends over.
One homemade remedy for insomnia is to sew a "pillow" filled with hops and to keep it by your pillow. The hop aroma has powerful effects even before it is used in beer!
Sierra Nevada Estate Ale. That one put me down, twice. Only half way through too...its the hops. different hops do different things to different people. They are 'block specific' if you will. Some get you high when you smoke them, some don't. Some people are really sensitive/allergic to hops. Also, the way hops are processed affects the way they assimilate with the body. You can get a different affect with a pellitized hop as opposed to a wet whole cone hop. So many factors, but its definately the hops 98 percent of the the time.
I read somewhere that the amino acids in hops are similar to tryptophan, you know the stuff in turkey that makes you sleepy. Higher hopped brews = more naps!
Steaming hot Ten Fidy with a dash of whole milk and two big marshmallows. Puts me to sleep 60% of the time, all the time.
