Would be cool if there was a button you could hit to go into "work stealth mode" where the forums appear in like an excel spreadsheet format or something...so those walking by would think I'm working instead of browsing a forum. Similar to what sites will do so people can follow the NCAA tourney... I know it's not going to happen cause I'm sure that it would involve essentially creating another brand new parallel forum and that's not worth the man hours...but just thought it was a cool idea to share.
Just have Excel open and keep your mouse hovered over it in your task bar while you're viewing BA so that when someone walks by, a quick click brings up some boring spreadsheet. I used to do that. But luckily now I have an office and position my monitor to be viewable by no one. So I always have BA open in a tab to check for fun periodically throughout the day. #workethic
tomorrow we are going to the Boneyard Bistro for dinner. Wasted 2 good hours of work time plotting my beer lineup.
Not sure if this is off-topic or not, but I'd be curious to hear what other people do for a living? And maybe their office situation, so we know how easy it is to be on BA. For me, I work at a large corporate bank. I have a cube, with a monitor that is visiible to people that walk by. When I'm busy, I'm not on BA.
When I see people click a 2 key combination when I walk up, I know perfectly well that they're hiding something. A mouse click works better... switch a tab, bring another screen to the foreground, minimize, etc.
Another useful product: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Privacy-Filter-Standard-PF14-1/dp/B00006B8A9 Good think my boss isn't on BA!
I run a liquor store that my family owns. So I basically sell/buy/drink/talk beer all day to customers while talking to you people.
I'm a prof, so I can politely close my office door Then again, when I'm at work, I'm running around like it's a 3 alarm fire, so there's seldom an opportunity to dive into BA. (semester starts next week, so you'll be seeing less of me for a while...)
I set my cube up to where my monitors are not visible to passers by, that said, I wouldn't mind a quick switchable work option that drops avatars and embedded pictures.
or you could realize the fact that none of this makes a difference cause when you use a work PC you consent to monitoring and anyone anytime can check history and see where you have been, when you've been doing it, and how often...
I always copied and pasted Wiki articles into Outlook, removed the hyperlinks (not manually), and acted like I was reading an e-mail.
you do realize any system admin regardless of "policy" can just find out what you are doing don't cha??? If I am a system admin, I am god... and you won't even know...
The worst is when there is no official IT or administrator figure in the office, but some fucking busybody narcs on everyone's computer use. There were two people like that in my old office.
Every organization is different, it all depends, some places don't care, others are incredibly strict, and lots of places just have micromanaging blowhards who want to stick their nose in everything....
My computer at work runs three 10,000 lbs blenders, one 6,000 lbs blender, one 3,000 lbs blender, four belts, and two augers. I can't even access the internet from it. I'm sure there is a way, but imagine how many pounds of ground beef would end up on the floor if I was distracted.
