Greetings, By next week, you will start seeing Aorta Ale hitting shelves throughout Michigan. This is the second time we packaged this beer in 12oz bottles. Aorta Ale was part of the 2007 Imperial Beer Series (#2 of 13) and is a limited specialty release. This year we almost had to rename this beer to "ObscuRED"--the government decided that a picture of an Aorta on a beer label made it look like a healthy beverage (WTF?). Fortunately, in the end they let us keep the name and original label. Aorta Ale: A double red ale that seems to indicate an intensity of flavor simply by it's dark reddish brown appearance. Subtle aromas of candy, brown sugar, and toasted malt seem reluctantly released from the depths of this full bodied beast. Raisins, figs, and burnt caramel are among some of the sweeter flavors up front, before giving way to a roasted cocoa like bitterness that becomes magnified by high alpha hops. Considering the initial overall sweetness, it's a heightened bitterness that dominates the finish. 8.3% ABV 127 IBU
It's sad the government has to pander to a bunch of idiots that doesnt know the difference between a beer and a health drink.
I have been looking forward to this one. Also BTW tracked down some Bodacious and it was outstanding!
Is this release earlier this year than last? I definitely drank this in my canoe on Lake Superior last year, and DOUBT it was in February.
Its everywhere in A2...good double red but the alcohol is very prominent this year...last years was much smoother but what the hell do I know...
How;s the hoppiness of this one this year? I felt the hops were too bitter and overpowering last year.
It's got a little bite to it, but I think well balanced, helps hide the abv.. My gf's first reaction was "woah, that's hoppy!" Worth a try, though.
