Good to know that not everyone here is trying to maximize profits
once i finally argue down the entire craft beer population from their nefarious "profit maximization" goal and get everyone back in the handholding generosity club, i am going to maximize the hell out of my subsequent profits. and you will know my name is the lord when i lay my vengeance upon thee.
I don't believe you.
when the day comes i'll bring out my special "dark avatar" (same avatar as now but with darker colors), stop my constant chatter posting, and my whole post history will thenceforth be
"ISO: wales, FT: shelf; cmon be generous bro"
i'll even start posting in that weird "is it computer generated or is it really bad broken english / a translator program?" english that phishing emails and fishy ebay sales are posted in. look at that internal rhyming.
done with the joke now though--you're right, i'm not really going to try to become the Beer King in the last days.
Just an update on this one guys - I received boxes from three genorous BA's to send to our friend up north and I'm throwing in a few bottles as well. Once they're consolidated and repacked, it looks like he'll be receiving not one but TWO boxes of beer just as soon as I have some time to take care of this. I'm not able to get it out as quickly as I'd hoped but I'll try to be quick about it. I'll post again when the box is on the way.
Awesome to see the community come together for a guy who got shafted!
Oh man, I think I know this guy! I just moved to Charlotte and few weeks ago and go into Duckworth's pretty regularly. In fact, I'm headed there tonight...I'll see what I can find out. Based on a past post...I'm assuming his name is Jared?
Update #2 (because communication is key people!!!): I've been in touch with alpineclimber in the past few days and he's asked me to hold off shipping for a week or two until he's ready. Also, he's very appreciative and a little overwhelmed with the number of bottles heading his way, so he asked me to send him some of them, but to hang onto the rest and start a LIF on his behalf to keep all this genorosity going - talk about a real class act, folks! So I'll post again when I ship a box to him, let him post the haul, and then throw out a LIF after that. Seriously people, this community is second to none.
^^^^^^^^^ That rocks.
Good god, I just took a look at the bad trade spreadsheet for the first time. (This thing is huge!) I really dig the trade feedback option on ratebeer and wish they'd consider doing it here...
Been meaning to me mention this - I'm a bit concerned on this box not making it to him if sent directly into Canada. Both him and myself have had boxes seized by customs before! Is this getting sent somewhere in the U.S. then picked up or driven across the border?
I only shipped to Canada once due to the cost, but I had no troubles with customs. You just have to be creative on the customs forms. The only real snag was when a bottle of homebrew broke as they were putting it on the truck. My trade partner was very cool about it and rescued the box before it got sent back.
He provided me with his address in Canada and if he has any reservations about customs issues he hasn't said anything to me.
No real update to speak of, but I feel guilty that it's been a little over a week since I last posted anything. We're past the dates alpineclimber asked me to hold off shipping but I've been a little busy this week and didn't get a chance to take care of this. The beers are still chillin safely in my basement waiting for me to rebox them and get them out. Sorry for the delay but stay tuned...
My attempt at a good deed has dragged on waaaay longer than I anticipated, and for that I apologize. Thanks for being patient with me. Beers are reboxed and ready, now I'm just trying to figure out all the paperwork I need to get in order.
i hate that this lanamj is associated with the Charlotte Beer scene.
Found out last week that he no longer works at Duckworth's, and was never a bartender there. Forgot where he is now though.
Jerod. I think he works at Sutton House now
That's it, just couldn't remember the name.
Ok folks, this box is FINALLY on the road after an extreme delay on my part. Keep your eyes peeled for the LIF post sometime before the end of the month.
Just got a call from FedEx Ground HQ saying Canadian custom seized the box because it contained alcohol. She also informed me that FedEx does not allow person-to-person shipments of alcohol and that the box was misrepresented as collectible glassware. I'm trying to find out if they can return the box to me but I'm not very optimistic. I just sent this info to alpineclimber and the guys who contributed beer in a private conversation so that they know what's going on. I imagine we're SOL as far as this box is concerned but thought I'd go ahead and ask - any ideas?
Man, if you didn't have so many people to vouch for you I would be questioning YOUR motives.
Trust me, with as long as it took me to just get the box out and now this, I can understand that line of thinking. The tracking hasn't been updated with an exception yet, but here's the tracking number if it helps: 000000415000817. The first exception was caused by me missing a piece of info on the packing slip for international shipments. My local FedEx hub called me and faxed it to me, then I faxed it back. Not sure if that raised a red flag or not.
I asked FedEx to have the box returned to me but if it's been seized by customs I'm not very optimistic that it will be sent back.
Just giving you a hard time, your rep obviously speaks for itself. Sorry it turned into such a pain in the ass for you.
Trade is cursed. Box is cursed.
No, Winnipeg is just cursed for having beer boxes arrive as a port of entry into Canada. As mentioned in my BM reply, I'd be happy to pick up and re-ship the box if you're able to get Canada customs here in Winnipeg to release it locally. I know this has been done successfully at least once in the past somehow.
Edit: Just checked trading, yep - it hit ND so it would have gone north to Winnipeg unfortunately.
Don't ever tell Fed Ex that your package contains glassware or something fragile. They sometimes open them to make sure the fragile items are packed appropriately and then discover what we're actually shipping. Just make sure you pack it so they don't feel the need to check and if they ask tell them comic books, scented candles or craft birdseed...
Only thing is I'm pretty sure they use x-ray scanners at this particular location, so they'd see the bottle shape and then wonder. I've though of doing some testing via sending beer listed as "Gourmet Salad dressing" or "Specialty Rootbeer soda" to see if it gets nabbed.
Line the walls of your boxes with lead.
Bonus points if you list the weight as 1 pound with FedEx/UPS.
Separate names with a comma.
