I was curious to see how many breweries people have visited and which were their favorites. I put a list together last summer after our first trip to Maine and my wife and I are currently up to 53 breweries in 9 different states. We just finished a 9 brewery trip in PA and this summer plan to go back up to Bar Harbor, ME with some friends to hit up 10 more.

Each brewery has its own distinct characteristics but I would say some of the favorites have been:
    • Tröegs - Beer speaks for itself, the new brewery is spotless, great atmosphere and amazing food
    • Allagash - Again, they have amazing beer but the tour was very informative
    • Throwback - Small brewery in an industrial park but the selection and quality of their Porters and Stouts are up there. If you visit try the milkshake with the Maple Kissed Stout - amazing
    • Brooklyn - Was better before the hipster invasion but a great place to chill with friends, play some cards, order food and enjoy the beer

They do make good stuff. The maple kissed was outstanding.
I have visited one brewery ever.

Too many to count...seriously. There are nearly 100 within an hour of Denver and I've been to 90% of those. I've also been to a good chunk near Munich and Bamberg, too.
Whenever I'm on vacation or traveling for work I do my best to hit at least a few wherever I am.

Of the ones I've been to, I think New Belgium might be the most impressive and well run.

No where near some of you, but I intend to have my visit list get longer and longer.

    Moab Brewery
    Stoneworks
    Full Sail
    Deschutes
    Upright
    Squatters

I know there is more that I'm not thinking of right now. Full Sail has been my favorite one to visit because of their awesome deck that overlooks the hood river. It's a beautiful experience on a summer day.

Most of ours have been in the Northeast since we live in NJ and do long weekend trips to various areas. We do want to take a trip out to Oregon and do the beer/food scene out there.

I've seen the outside of Allagash (was on a Sunday when they weren't open) but I know that doesn't count. If Brewpubs count, I've also been to Sebago (Portland), a Gordon Biersch (Annapolis), Sarasota Brewing Co and Darwin's on 4th (Sarasota).

Also too many to count--I try to combine my national park trips with brewery trips...The brewery that stands out to me is Tommyknocker--great atmosphere and beer..For a newer entry I like the atmosphere of Two Roads as well.

I was pretty disappointed in the Allagash tour when I was there a few years ago. They were in full production mode and the tour guide was a smallish female with a very soft voice - we could hardly hear a word she said. When we did hear her it sounded like she was reading from a script.

The nearest brewery to me is Heavy Seas in the Baltimore area and I've been on the tour several times. Depending on the tour guide it can either be a really great tour or a 'meh' tour.

I mention that because I don't judge Allagash because of my poor experience, but brewery tour guides should realize that some people travel great distances to visit and even though they may have done the tour 20 times, it's probably the first (and maybe only) time for at least a handful of people in the group. My top breweries out of the 25-30 I've been to:

NEBCO - Very informal, treated us like guests in their home
Jackie O's - Personal tour by Brad, chill atmosphere in brewpub
Red Hook/Dogfish Head/Heavy Seas(Brian) - Tour guides were funny, personable, passionate about beer and great story tellers.
