Just bought the last 2013 off the shelf a couple weeks back. Perfect timing!

Very excited. This is Founders's best beer (Backstage Series notwithstanding) in my opinion.

Central Waters BA Scotch Ale is a great alternative, a bit cheaper too. Lake Louie Louie's Reserve Scotch Ale is great, too, albeit not barrel-aged.

Some friends and I did a side by side of these two (Central Waters BA Scotch and Backwoods Bastard). The CW was fine, but the BB just blew it out of the water (both were the most recent year).

For some reason I've never been a Backwoods fan. Granted, it's not my favorite style. I'll try them side-by-side this year. I suppose we all have different tastes.

Yeah, someone got some BB in St Louis last Friday.
Founders is not a local anymore.

You know you want to announce new distro to Colorado with this launch, right?!

Try doing it next to Thirsty Dog's Wulver or Cigar City's BA Big Sound.

Most of the time you get better distribution (and fresher beer) outside of MI (and WI, in my case).

Why is the distribution so strange? Any body have a guess? Why not Michigan first?

On the retail side breweries have customer, they would be the distributors, and they have to line up just like everyone else. Sometimes out of state distributors get in ahead of in state distributors. Sometimes distributors allocate their first shipments to some markets and not others. It is really not as simple as we'd like to make it out to be.

I got some Backwoods in St. Louis this past Friday at The Wine & Cheese Place. As far as I know, it was the only store to release/sell it in the area. Founders has referred out of state customers to TWCP's online store (linked above), and it seems reasonable to me that the store should see some unique distro/releases for that reason.
