I'm taking a trip down to FL later this month and was wondering if the new Funky Buddha brewery will fill any 32oz growler or if you have to have one of their logo'd ones? I have some 32oz screw top ones like this:

that I'd like to bring down and use while I'm there and to bring home some fills. I tried calling but the person on the phone seemed confused by my question and couldn't give me an answer.

there is no law in FL that says you cant use another Growler than the Brewery that is filling it. However, there are a few places I have found that will only fill their own. No clue about FB.

Keep in mind there are limitations on which beers they will growler fill. I've never seen more than 1 or 2 on the "available for growler fill" list. As of yesterday they were only filling Florida Hefeweizen. According to their FB page they are going through so much Hop Gun IPA in the tap room they took it off the growler fill list to make sure they have enough until the new batch are ready. I'm just happy they are seeing that level of success. Certainly a very good sign!!

Yea I'm not expecting to get fills of any of the specialty beers, just hoping that I can get some fills of Floridian Hefeweizen and Hop Gun and that I can save some money and not have to spend $10-20 on 2-4 growlers. Already have more than enough empty growlers.

Not sure when you are coming down but they still have some of their limited release beers available in the tap room. Last Snow, No Crusts PB&J, NIB Smuggler, etc.

I don't believe Buddha fills other growlers. Mostly because they have one of those awesome counter pressure growler filling machines and it's calibrated to their 32 oz swing tops.

The Buddha will only fill new a growler you buy from them. I have an old Buddha growler, from the brew pub, but the bartender told me they can't fill it and wouldn't exchange it for a new one:slight_frown: So..... I bought a two new ones and had them filled with the O.P. Porter!!!

As of today they are still only doing growler fills of Floridian Hefeweizen, which is decent but not one of my favorites by them. I wanted to get one of Hop Gun but didn't get around to it, now it's been pulled from the growler fill along with OP Porter. Ah well, hopefully they will add some more beers to the growler list. In the meantime I plan to visit this week to drink more Last Snow anyway.

Thanks for the responses guys, I guess I'll just see what they're offering for fills when I get down there and decide if I wanna buy a few growlers, probably not worth it if it's just the hefe. I'm gonna try to get to both locations so I'm sure I'll be able to drink more than enough of their beer without taking any to go though lol.

I'm flying down from NY on Saturday. Hoping these will still be available on Monday, which may be my first chance to visit.

Update: they tapped Raspberry Floridian today and have it available for growler fills until 1 keg of it is gone, then only on tap. I hear it's good. Going to stop by after work today and hopefully get 32 oz.

They still have Floridian Hefeweizen available in growlers. Also, they posted on their Facebook that next week Hop Gun will be back on the growler station.

Make sure they fill your growler properly. I got an OP porter there and they didnt fill it all of the way (the whole neck of the growler was empty).

I was under the impression that growlers only stay fresh for a couple of days?

I picked up a 32 oz growler yesterday on my way home from work. The bottle was $5 and they charged $12 to fill it with Raspberry Floridian. I think the normal price is $8 but it was more for this because it's a special release. The wife and I drank it last night. It was more up her alley (she likes Fruit beers) than mine but I still enjoyed it. Refreshing and you can tell they used a boatload of real raspberries in this one.

regarding growler life... i had a shipping incident recently with a growler, it went all the way to NJ, then was returned to me due to a problem with the packaging. anyway, the growler was over a week old, unrefridgerated, in florida heat. opened it up, and it tasted excellent, fresh, and had full carbonation. It was a choc vanilla brown ale from CCB Growler tuesday (flip top 32 oz), so maybe hoppy fills wouldn't hold up as well, but this one really was perfectly fine.

Someone more clued in than me can probably elaborate, but I believe the counter pressure growler filling machines breweries like Funky Buddha extends the life a growler to more than a few days. Unfortunately a lot of breweries don't use them due to cost.

I think a lot of the short-term growler myths are just that - myths. I've had growlers over a month old from the Due South screw-tops and the old Funky Buddha screw-tops and they tasted fresh and fully carbonated. Just make sure the seal is tight. Growler problems arise after they are initially and beer is poured, leaving space for oxygen....from there, you are on the clock.

those growler machines essentially treat the growlers as if they're bottled so they'll last as long as any bottle would if unopened

but just like any bottle, it's best to drink fresh
