    Hey Everyone,

I've got a probably pretty simple kegerator issue but I don't know how to fix it. Basically, every time I clean my lines I take the faucet off my tower and when I re-attach it it's a bit looser. It screws on tight, but then the whole faucet and tap handle can rotate freely. Last change is was sort of loose, but now if I don't support it the tap handle will just fall over. I think that the teeth on the inside of the faucet are supposed to match up with the teeth on the outside of the pipe (wrong term, not sure what to call it) that's coming out of the tower. That pipe can twist a little one way or the other, but not too far. All of the teeth look OK too, but I'm not sure how they're supposed to look new. Could I just need a new faucet? Or maybe a new pipe inside the tower? Or both? I'd rather not buy stuff that I don't need. Also, if I do need to replace that pipe, how would I go about doing that? Can't be too hard, right?

Here are pics of both pieces - the tap:

    And the handle:

    I really appreciate any help.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

The pipe is called a shank. If the inside of the shank is rotating it is because the nut inside the tower is loose. Pop the top off the tower and get some pliers on the nut and tighten it. It is very unlikely that there is an issue with the teeth, which look fine.

Awesome - thanks so much Doug! That was exactly the problem, I didn't even know the top came off. I appreciate the quick reply!

My pleasure. To really tighten it you can use the faucet as a handle to twist against the pliers holding the nut.

is that a Stone Arrogant Bastard marker I see?
may as well do yourself a favor and lose that 6 ton handle, aka a faucet destroying device.

seriously, that handle is a bad idea and Stone it looks like Stone has stopped providing them. it's too heavy. the marker is a big lever after all, and most people are in the habit of grabbing the top and jamming the lever forward. it is only a matter of time until you snap the brass lever inside the works. and scramble to stop the uncontrolled flow of very expensive beer. no joking.

you might want to consider an upgrade to stainless anyway. like this

or make the jump to all ss if you haven't already.
    Cheers.

What? I run the Stone handle myself and plenty of others right around the same weight and have never had an issue. If everything with the faucet is tightened up properly you should not have an issue...

yes. and I drive over 40,000 miles a year without ever having died in a crash. so clearly there is no danger in driving and no one needs a seatbelt.
i'm just speaking from experience and knowledge. the Stone handle is cool and all, but really, look at that thing!
    Cheers.

It's acrylic, isn't it? I have ceramic ones that have got to weigh more. Never had an issue. Leverage and weight are not related BTW.

That might be what I was saying. Or maybe I was saying that I have run my kegerator for many years with pretty heavy tap handles and never had an issue....sorry to provide a different opinion.

Let's just all drink some great beers man!
