I love quads. So my nods go to (in order) Westy XII, Rochefort 10, and an honorable mention goes to Chimay "Blue".

I've never had anything from Achel, and Orval only makes a pale.

Here's some notes from what I've had, and mind you I dislike tripels so I didn't even list them:

    Like: Westy 12, 8, Blonde...Rochefort 8, 6...Chimay Blue and Red

    Dislike: Rochefort 10

I've had Rochefort, Chimay, Orval, Stift Engelszell, and Westvleteren, but Rochefort 10 has got to be my favorite.

Put yer money on the favorite. Me and God have other, more pressing convos to deal with. For instance, He keeps harpin' on the Lucifer thang. He cain't let it go. He blames Himself. I tell him "It ain't yer fault". It is what it is.

I love Trappist beers. But in these times there are some Belgian brewers that aren't, 'Trappist' that are pretty damn close. I used to put my top 25 Belgian beers and top Trappist beers in different lists, but recently Ive changed to just my top Belgian beers. In terms of Trappist breweries its: 1, westy-sint sixtus, 2. Rochefort, 3. St. Benedictus-Achel, 4. Westmalle, 5. Chimay, 6. La Trappe(though I put it in the Netherlands cat.), 7. Orval(poor Orval is always under appreciated, but fact is the few they do are some of the best in its style). Here in Kentucky/WV, we always have Rochefort 6,8,10, Chimay White,Red,Blue, westmalle dubbel, tripel, Orval is seen at a few spots. But something I wish we'd get is Achel. When I've had it I loved it and there is still a few left to try. I've been trying to get my favorite store to start grabbing the Belgians up like I know with some trying we could get the majority of top shelf Belgian ales in Kentucky. I really like what Het Anker is doing as well as Fantome. Lately though the mid week Belgian brew for dinner has been an old favorite: Van Steenberge Gulden Draak ale. I almost forgot how good it was.

'Til now, I've only had La Trappe Dubbel, Westmalle, Orval and Chimay (Blue). My fav between those is Orval. But I intend to have my opinion changed because there's 2 Trappistes Rochefort (8 and 10) in my cellar waiting for June to come.

IIRC, Achel is the smallest Trappist brewery by far (except for maybe that newer one in Austria which I know nothing about).

so far out of the 5 that I have tried I have to go with Rochefort 8 I think. I do have a Westy 12 in my fridge ready to try though, so things could change

I'm an AAL guy, but how in the hell can the same country that makes Chimay, also produce Stella?

    What were they thinkin'?

Contradicatory to my BA status, I LOVE aals, and Euro pale lagers. HOWEVER. Other than Camo, Stella has got to be the nastiest beer God has ever put upon this green Earth. I love Chimay and other Belgiums. But Stella? harumph...Tastes like a Bud Lite leftover from a nite of hard drinkin' w/ a little bit of Copenhagen tossed in for good measure.
