This is true, but Yankee Spirits and Wines and More in Mansfield have similar representation.

I like Jack's Abby, don't get me wrong. Some of their offerings fly off the shelf. The problem is they make around 10 different beers, some which are styles that are not popular. I think if Alchemist made four or five types, they'd probably have a problem selling out of each one.

The intent of my post, was to illustrate that most brewers would want the success the Alchemist has had so far. Not having cans sitting at liquor stores for months, is a good thing.

If JA made Kiwi year round at $12 4 packs(to make it comparable to HT) it would constantly sell out everywhere.

The answer to this question is quite simple. There is more consumer demand for Heady Topper than Jack's Abby.

But would people drive 6+ hrs round trip to buy 6 cases of it from the brewery every week?

I tried a Jack's Abby bomber once, don't remember which one. It's the only beer I thought somewhat captured the magical mystery taste of Heady Topper. It wasn't as good- not as balanced and pleasingly carbonated. But they seemed to have nailed the biggest puzzle piece no one else has.

i don't think mercury does cans, and fx matt flash pasteurizes, and they would not use the alchemist house yeast. not even sure they could source enough hops.

Damn, they make it hard, don't they....What about Two Roads, or Lion? Or just brew at Mercury and use bottles, or send the beer to Wachusett for canning... I bet if one of the contract breweries had the chance to say they brewed HT, they'd bend over backwards to do so.

    Wishful thinking, maybe...

Was this the new Lawson's collab? That's the only one I'm aware of that was sold inVT...Jacks Abby doesn't sell outside of MA

i must be mixing it up with another Massachusetts ale.

a bomber with green label. i thought the word Abbey was in it.

    it was pretty solid.

after looking at mass beers in google images, maybe it was Larry Imperial. now confused.

I don't understand why the easy argument does not cut it? I think it is THE argument, Heady Topper is just in such ridiculous demand that people from NY, PA, ME, MA, NH, NJ, CN - will travel to buy it, to drink it, to share it, to trade it, and to worship it.

Oh I agree, I live in Boston near Fenway (moving to Cambridge) and love everything about living in the city. I would not trade it for the world (love visiting VT to ski and enjoy the food/beer), but like you said, I know there are people who feel the opposite.

They wouldn't have to--they could walk to Jack's Abby from the Framingham commuter rail station.

Why? There are plenty of breweries in Mass making great beer.

I really don't like it when people buy up all the Heady. That's less of it for folks like me to drink.

Here's a better idea: MOVE TO VERMONT. It will certainly cut down on the number of annoying "I'm going to Vermont, is there a limit on Heady?" threads that clutter up the NE forum.

I'm waiting for the hype to die down so I can finally try some of these releases. Lawson's is already so limited and every time it shows up at Beverage Warehouse, I miss out on it. Luckily, I got a bottle of the smoked maple lager collaboration with Jack's Abby.

I'm sure that some have written me off as a "wet blanket" but this is the first year that I recall the VT Brewer's Festival selling out after only 2 days of ticket sales.

Do us a favor and check out the other great breweries that we have. Fiddlehead is underrated, ditto for Otter Creek, McNeils, etc. Why stop at Heady/Lawsons/Hill Farmstead?

    No way!

Mercury, in my opinion, totally made the bottled Celia Saison undrinkable. The beer was great on tap but it must have been a bad batch in bottles. No thanks.

    Ditto on FX Matt.
