Good to hear, great brewery, drinking headhunter right now. What's up with the switch to green caps??

That's the type of story that makes you check your calendar. It's not April is it?

    Start of merged thread:
A new post in Beer News says Fat's Head's (from Ohio) just leased space in the Pearl District for a pub opening (scheduled) Spring 2014. Honestly, I know nothing about this brewery/pub... and am more than a little surprised that an 'outsider' brewery like this would attempt to set up operations in Portland.

    Comments? Opinions?

PS: I remember about 3-4 years ago when American Flatbread (chain from Vermont/Virginia) leased space in Pearl for a pizza/brewpub that never panned out. Oops... http://pdx.eater.com/tags/american-flatbread

I think Fat Head's either owns a hop farm or at least has very strong relationship with one close to Portland, so that probably had something to do with the location. As far as beer goes, you guys will be happy with the quality.

I felt sad leaving Pittsburgh cause it meant no more Fat Heads. They make good beers and serve even better ones. Fat Heads has a great atmosphere with a great selection of brews decently priced, glad to see them growing. Head Hunter and Bean Me Up are some of my favorite beers for those styles

Finally! Portland is in dire need of a place that serves quality brews! Seriously though, I've heard good things but never have tried any of their stuff. They must be doing well for themselves to lease a 13,000 Sqft building in the Pearl District...

Head Hunter was quite delicious. Not my style of DIPA, but it was very nice. Does this mean they will start distributing to WA eventually? =)

Sounds like a brewpub without enough space for that kind of production. 10 barrels probably wouldn't be enough to set up many accounts in Oregon, much less making the jump to WA distribution too.

I think it's good to see these types of moves. Instead of opening a larger place on familiar turf, branching out and taking on a huge challenge. Welcome Fat Heads, I look forward to trying your stuff!

Like I said over in the other thread, I'm happy to see it. I'm all for more good beer. Let's make the craft beer pie bigger! Welcome to the PNW Fat Heads!

Is there any precedence for this type of thing? I know there are some shitty chains, but Fat Head's is a great brewery and this venture is unusual if not a first.

That's cool. I'm pretty sure Matt Cole's plan has always been for Fat Head's to become a huge chain. I'm kinda surprised he's going across country so quickly, but good for him.. I'm sure this will be a success..

Sweet. Fat Head's makes some good stuff. Although it's gonna be tough to compete with the NW IPAs, looking forward to seeing them in the NW.

I've had the head hunter IPA and the oompa loompa chocolate cream stout thanks to MikeTD and I'm here to share with fellow Portlanders that these beers are very good!
