Anybody have a recommendation for beer near the University of Alberta, Edmonton? Here on and off for the next few months.

Will be able to head further afield on if anyone has some must do's.

    Cheers.

Luckily the best beer bars we have are close to the UofA. The best ones in walking distance are:

    Sugarbowl
    Three Boars
    Accent Lounge

There's also Underground, which is Downtown a 5 minute LRT ride away (get on at University or Health Sciences station, get off at Central station).

For retail there's nothing special in the University area, if you have a car then Sherbrooke Liquor or Keg n' Cork are your best bets.

Do yourself a favour and get yourself a ride to Sherbrooke Liquor... Man do I miss that place. Beer heaven! Guaranteed to be worth the trip.

Everyone here has suggested all your best bets already, but I will toss in the that if you can get use of a car Wine and Beyond in Windermere has a crazy beer selection, as well as growler sales with about 15 beers on tap.

If you can get to Sherbrooke, as well as the taps at Underground or Beer Revolution downtown, Wine & Beyond is not even remotely worth the effort getting to from the center of the city.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Will leave liquor stores till next time.

I was at Three Boars last night, was a fun spot. The small plates mean small though! Tonight I went to Sugarbowl. Definitely more my scene! Great atmosphere, taps and food. I think I have a new local whenever at UofA. I managed to catch cask night too =)

    Cheers

Add one more vote for the Underground. Their beer selection is extraordinary and the food and service are very good as well.

I wouldn't bother with Wine & Beyond. Their beer selection can be found in the likes of Sherbrooke & Keg 'n Cork; keg 'n Cork is the cheapest of these 3 stores.

And as for the growler station at W+B.....if they ever cleaned their lines properly & lowered some of the pricing, I would say yes...but as it is just STAY AWAY! Just go to Sherbrooke & Keg 'n Cork, and if you're in downtown pay a visit to Devines on 104 & Jasper.
