For my Chicago/IL NW Suburbs people, I was able to pick up a bottle at Liquor Barn for $9.99 tonight. Definitely going to let it sit for a little bit and let the flavors get better.

I think they worded this incorrectly. Draft will be available aside from their brewpub but bottles are gift shop only.

These two breweries know how to make stouts and porters! They could make a smoked turd porter and I would probably still try it...

Yeah, I'm from the NE area of OH, and I have some friends that live in NY ..they have never heard of Great Lakes. I almost couldn't believe it.

Agreed that Deschutes puts out one of the best porters, I am more excited to try this then the barley wine. I absolutely love smoked beers done right.

Tried my first bottle over the weekend. $9.88 at the GLBC Gift Shop as others noted. They bottled them by hand (guy said "the labels were the worst part" FWIW). This is a nice collectors bottle and would make great trade bait.

My friends and I really enjoyed it. It's a solid 90-92 on my scale. Well balanced with what you would expect from an Imp Porter...vanilla/coff/choc with a nice toasty thing going on. Dangerously drinkable. Smoke flavor was just a tad strong for what I like, but it wasn't overly abusive or anything (Rogue!). I would put this up their with Ballast Point's Victory at Sea, but that beer really is more "stout-ish"...this guy was lighter and easier to drink. I would probably recommend letting it sit for a couple months.

Very well done. I would seek this one out. I'm going to buy a few more and really give this a few tries over the next year.

Note the FWIW, that's just what the gift shop guy told me. Can't attest to if he was involved in the process or whatever. I was inquiring as to how they bottled 22's and he said the bottling was the easy part and the labeling was the worst part. GLBC uses the glue on paper labels...I didn't question him as to why the screen printing bottles was a pain. Again, FWIW, maybe irrelevant detail. Just trying to deliver as much info as I could.

"Both breweries have distribution in the states of Minnesota and Illinois, so side-by-side tasting events are being planned for mid-May in those regions. Stay tuned to the Deschutes events page and Great Lakes Brewing Co.’s website for more information."

OK, we know that the bottles are not making it out from GL, but that the kegs are. So does anybody have any word (love to hear from anybody on the distro or pub side) on where around the Twin Cities that one of these side by side tappings is supposed to take place? I haven't seen a keg of either yet and I see that Deschutes is only just now getting to do their own tasting party at the brewery for this on Memorial Day.

Any idea how long this will be available at The brewery? Would love to get a couple bottles but won't be able to get up that way for a couple weeks.

I was at GLBC last Thursday and they had about ten bottles on the shelf still. I'm sure they still have more to put out but it might not be two weeks worth.
