I cracked a CBS today-only to discover a beer gone wrong. Tasted like burned metal I suppose, or something equally unpleasant-far cry from the standard maple bourbon goodness. Between reviews and the forums I don't recall anyone ever reporting a similar experience. My previous bottles of CBS were excellent.

Surprised to say the least, has this happened to anybody else?

Where/how was it kept? If it was exposed to light and/or heat that would have an adverse affect on it it.

CBS ages well? That's news to me.

I had one not too long ago and thought it was excellent. Had one fresh also and didn't really think it had changed a whole lot in the year and half between bottles.... Sounds like you may have been victim to a 80 degree/sunbathed cellar...

Point taken, but that's not the issue. Sure, the maple/boubon presence could've fallen off, although with respect to this bottle I couldn't tell. The flavor that overwhelmed the beer prevented any chance to gauge those qualities, or lack thereof.

Like I said, never seen anybody mention anything remotely similar to what I tasted yesterday. Chalk it up to random ugly duckling.
