Every time I find Pliny it's hidden in the refrigerator section with only a sign limit one per person. i also found knuckle sandwich the same way. i have never seen KS in the store before.

Brea, CA Total Wine does it a little different. They keep the Plinys in the fridge behind the fine champagnes and bordaeux wines, not the main fridge. You have to know its there and ask to go back there. That was 2 years ago. It may have changed.

Any store that "hides" their beers is dumb. I don't get the reason for doing it. If the store wants to put a limit on it, then fine. If they are "saving" them for the more sophisticated beer snob, then that's just plain stupid.

You're not going to get some random Bud Light guy walk past the cooler and say to himself..."Hmm...Pliny The Elder, I think i'll give it a try," and any newbie craft beer drinker should surely get the chance to try it without having to ask if it's hidden.

TW in Northridge has them like this too. I don't think that it's an issue of hiding them, just keeping them fresh. I thought I read somewhere before that Russian River requires/prefers if stores keep their hoppy beers in coolers as a distribution condition.

Fine, keep it fresh in a cooler and display it like normal. No need to hide them in the back stocking cooler.

I know TW has a self-serve walk-in cooler that they might keep a case, but at least you can access it without asking, and the reason they do it...is because it sells out the same day usually. If they created a cooler shelf spot, that spot would be empty for days while another beer could be displayed there.

Every time I have found pliny its in a cooler both at TW and the local home brewer store, so maybe thats why. It's not "hidden" in a section you have to request for permission but a walk in cooler section. It not in the open for everybody to see. I think it's a combo of keeping the IPAs cold and fresh and maybe to reward their regulars, which I am cool with.

I even did the right thing and told some dude there is pliny in the fridge and he said "cool". When I saw him checking out, no pliny. Oh well his lose.

Exactly this. Also part of the reason Bevmo doesn't get any.

While I've yet to see any Pliny (or RR at all for that matter) at TW HB, I know they keep the limited release beers behind the front counter, so I always ask if they have any goodies stashed behind there when I first walk in.

Be sure to check the main fridge section, too. They had a pretty good selection of stuff inside of there last time I went.

Really? I've been there pretty often and never been advised to ask for anything good. That's the worst. What have I missed out on? Who do I talk to?

Off the top of my head, I picked up stone enjoy by, kern JO, FW XVI, and abyss that way. You don't have to ask for anyone in specific, just ask one of the people hanging out back there if there's any special beer releases.

Went to the TW in Mission Viejo last night. They received one case of Pliny amd i missed the last bottle by 15 minutes. It was in the walk in freezer with the "one bottle per" sign. So sad seeimg the empty case lol.

Tustin Brewery currently has it on tap though.
