I wish I could stop this topic forever. Please for the love of pete, stop trying to age IPAs.

I've had a 2 year old 90 minute that I enjoyed. I'll be laying down a NN for a few years to see what happens (hopefully 5 years). Screw it, I buy the stuff by the case and its cheap enough.

I've aged IPA's purely for the science of it all. It's interesting to see for yourself why it's such a shitty idea to ever age a beer like Nugget Nectar or Hopslam. Just don't ever do it expecting anything good to come from it.

Great response. Are we not allowed to learn and grow as beer lovers?

I had a year old NN once but I wouldn't say it was 'aged' as it was kept refrigerated. Saw it at a bar once a year ago and it was before the release date so I asked the bartender if they got an early shipment. He said it was from last year and that the beer was made to be aged. I tried to be nice and just say that I prefer that one fresh but he insisted and even said he would pay for it if I didn't like it. Long story short, I drank it and it was less than stellar, not terrible, just not that great. I ended up paying for it anyway because I didn't want to get into the argument with the guy about why I preferred it fresh.

We did a Hopslam vertical about a few months ago and it was terrible - we wont be doing that again.

I had a year old hopslam that was absolutely amazing, aging some of this years hoping that it will be better next year with a year on it at least... I have a few other IPA's that I'm aging as well, but they are bigger beers, expecting them to be more like a barleywine by the time I crack them.

I think that to a large extent people fetishize aging when very few beers actually age well. To first order the answer to the question "Will this improve with age?" is "No, it won't." I think that it does the community at large a service to make this fact pretty well known.

If you really want to experiment with aging things then go ahead, no one's going to stop you (or care that you're doing it). But you can probably save yourself some time, energy, and space in your fridge if you don't bother.

I drank the last 2011 hopslam that i had in november. It was good. I wouldn't say better or worse that fresh. Just a little more mellow, but still had plenty of hop, thats why we love it.

The Dogfish Head 75 minute bottle says to age it....so I am. I know it goes against the general consensus here but I'll listen to the guy that made it.

I have a Thomas Creek Up the Creek dipa with over a year on it. It is like barleywine fresh. Has anyone had one with some age?

I suppose if I had money sitting around to waste, I might give this a try. But generally speaking, I don't age anything that tastes perfect fresh.

It's kind of like crapping all over a gold coin just to see if it shines any brighter.

Celebration with a year on it is like baby Bigfoot, really tasty. If you expect an aged IPA to taste like a fresh one, then you will be disappointed. BUT some of them do become like classic English barleywines or old ales, especially if they are higher abv.

Thomas Creek was not my cup of tea fresh. Why not try putting it down for awhile and see if it better. This Dipa is 12.5 percent and taste like a barleywine.

I accidentally aged a Hop Slam about 9months. When I found it in the fridge I drank it and liked it better than fresh. I didn't really like last year's Hop Slam fresh. Too much cat piss for me. That faded and I enjoyed my 12ozs.

Last year I put a away a mix-a-six of Nugget Nectar, Flower Power, 2XIPA, Harpoon Imperial IPA, 90min, and Burton Baton just to hold onto for a couple of years and see what happens. I have good feelings about a few, and a lets see attitude about some.

I aged a bottle of Hopslam for a year, it was ok, I would not do it again.
