I'm going to visit Rome over Easter and the week after - and am looking for suggestions on some local craft beers or brew pubs. Any suggestions?

Absolutely excellent choice, I have been 3 times. Great bar staff, great food, wonderful Italian craft beer on tap and an insane bottle list!

    Also check out Ma che...
again great staff, wonderful little place, tons of fun
and the pizza by the slice about 150m away on the corner is delicious!

Ma che followed by Bir and Fud is a great evening. Did that twice while in Rome. Manuele is awesome if he's there. First day I went I had Narke Kaggen! and Cantillon Pinot D'Aunis - he gave me an amazing deal as long as I shared a small amount of the Pinot with him. He only took like 2 ounces!

Except for all the suggestions above I'd really want to suggest that you go to Open Baladin. That's Baladin's (the best brewery in Italy) own pub and they have a great assortment of taps and bottles from both their own brewery and guests. When I was there last year they had Lou Pepe Framboise 2007 on tap, for example. My favourite bar in Rome, and in my opinion much better than Brasserie 4:20 that I feel gets way too much credit for their beer list that is way, way, way overpriced.

I have to second the recommendation for Open Baladin. Amazing bar, beautifully designed. 35-40 taps, 2-3 cask, mostly from Italian craft brewers, but a couple others including a Cantillon. Food was very good too. Good location too, I'd say it's a 15 minute walk from the Forum.

Ma Che was great to watch some calcio, with a nice selection on tap...but the place across the street, Bir e Fud (same owners as Ma Che), was fantastic...tons of great beer on draft, and the food was delicious.

I will be in Rome over Dec 20th - 30th, figured I'd give this thread a bump! Thanks for the suggestions so far. If any BAs want to join up for a tasting, let me know.

Will be in Rome Dec 27-29, or so, and then off to Florence area (staying in Panzano for about 5 days). Places to go in Tuscany? (Especially Florence area? And, by the way, if you want anything from California/U.S. now is the time to tell me! I'm bringing beer with me both as presents and to drink/share)

In Florence I went to a place called Mostodolce. They make their own beers, I was pretty impressed with them. It's a 5 minute walk from the train station. Go during a big soccer match, especially a Juventus or Fiorentina match, and it will be a great crowd.

I also went to a small brewpub, apparently the oldest in Florence, called Il Bovaro. I enjoyed their beers, but they aren't highly rated. They only had three. Cool ambiance, non-touristy, only locals in there. Food was tasty, inexpensive.

If you're into wine or oils, check out a place in Florence called Italian Loves...great owner, very friendly, will give you a nice sampling of wines, olive oils, truffle oils. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. The owner is also very into Italian craft beer and speaks great English.

Any updates on places in Rome for craft beer? What are the top craft beers here in Italy that are must tries? I'm in Rome for a couple of weeks and then heading up to Ravenna for a week and then Lake Como for a week. I'm mainly a hoppy beer drinker and love sour and funky beers almost as much...but I definitely don't want to miss any great Italian beers while I'm here. Thanks!
